* RoleReprisal: While a lot of characters from the film have been recast for this game, several actors actually got to reprise their roles.
** Chris Sarandon reprises his role as Jack Skellington, and even does the character's singing voice this time instead of Creator/DannyElfman.
** Ken Page returns as the voice of Oogie Boogie.
** Glenn Shadix is back as the Mayor of Halloween Town.
** Randy Crenshaw reprises both Mr. Hyde and Behemoth.
** Debi Durst reprises her roles as the Small Witch and the Corpse Kid.
** Paul Reubens returns as the voice of Lock.

* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Lock, Shock and Barrel vanish from the game after they drop Jack on Oogie's lair. It can be reasonably assumed they just [[HeelFaceTurn turned away]] after Oogie was defeated, like the movie.

* SpiritualSuccessor: The overall structure of the game was taken from ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry''. In turn, ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry4'' and ''VideoGame/Bayonetta'' implemented ideas that their developers previously used on this game.

''The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge'' is a UsefulNotes/PlayStation2 and UsefulNotes/{{Xbox}} action game released in 2005 by Buena Vista Games and developed by Creator/{{Capcom}}.

** First take Jack, whose natural hammy theatrics are TurnedUpToEleven when in [[MusicalAssassin Musical Assassin mode]] then pit him in dance fights with huge song and dance sequences - complete with backup dancers (No, really, you can actually sing and dance most the bosses into submission Broadway style) - against the following:

* NiceGuy: Jack's friendliness is very apparent now that he's over his Christmas obsession. When he first meets the game's main enemies, his immediate reaction is try to shake their hand and welcome them into town. Later, despite the scope of their crimes, Jack always leaves Lock, Shock and Barrel off with a angry scolding and little else once they're beaten. During his boss fight with Finkelstein, he repeatedly implores the doctor to stop fighting, despite him literally having a different brain driving his body. Just about the only person he isn't in some way friendly with is Oogie, [[GoKartingWithBowser and even then the two sing and dance together in the boss battles.]]

* LivingWeapon: The Soul Robber, Jacks primary weapon. If one looks at his arm, it even continuously moves in his IdleAnimation.

* PlanetHeck: The Grisly Gauntlet, what with [[LethalLavaLand lava]], countless skeletons protruding from the floor and walls, and one of the dark and intense music pieces that features Oogie whispering Jacks name and emitting his EvilLaugh numerous times. If it weren't for it being rather early, one could mistake this for the last level.

* TrickBoss: You might be quite surprised during your first play through if don't pay close attention.

* CanonImmigrant: Sort of. Some of the larger skeleton enemies strongly resemble one of the skeleton pirates from another Henry Selick movie, JamesAndTheGiantPeach. Jack, of course, has a cameo as the pirate captain.

** And efore that there's: "You beat my men, so what, big deal, you even ran the maze. You still can't stop me, I'm the king of Seven Holidays!"

* KillItWithFire: Jack's Pumpkin King costume gives him the ability to breath fire.

* UnlockableContent: In addition to the aforementioned costumes, Jack can also unlock full-length versions of the game's song and music as well as the ability to rewatch any of the game's cutscenes as the game progresses. In addition, getting a perfect score at the end of every level will unlock a figurine of one of the game's characters, enemies, or bosses.

* AdaptationExpansion: Downplayed. The game gives a more definitive outlay of Halloween Town and the roles of some of it's citizens, and we get some light shed on the Holiday Doors and where Jack found them, but ultimately we don't learn very much about the characters' histories or how the world works.

** Many of Halloween Town's residence are absent. Checking houses in the Residential Area suggests that [[TheDevTeamThinksOfEverything Oogie has driven them into hiding.]]

* UnexplainedRecovery: Oogie himself, His death is made apparent in the previous film, having the brain bug crushed, but apparently Oogie can come back whenever his minions go through the effort of stitching and collecting bugs for his body.

* ThrownDownAWell: [[spoiler: Its revealed that the Holiday Kings of Valentines Day, Independence Day, Saint-Patrick's Day, and Easter are down in the [[HiddenInPlainSight Dry Well that is in the town's Square]]]]

* PumpkinSpiceEverything: Pumpkins are not only edible, but they are considered very delicious by the residence.

* AndYourRewardIsClothes: Completing certain objectives unlocks alternative costumes for Jack. Most of them only serve stylistic purposes, but the first two actually grant Jack abilities that can help him throughout the game.

* GiantSpider: The Crypt Creeper Spider is a huge spider boss. [[spoiler:It later comes back as a PaletteSwap OptionalBoss, which [[PokeThePoodle stole Igor's doggy biscuits, and later guarding the other Holiday leaders]]]]

* TheUnfought: Downplayed with Shock. While she is eventually fought alongside Lock and Barrel in a boss fight atop the Mayor's roof, she's the only one of the trio who isn't faced in battle separately.

* SavingChristmas: The objective of the game is for Jack to save Christmas and the other holidays from being taken over by Oogie Boogie.

* GigglingVillain: Oogie's chuckling and giggling is added to many of the games instrumental pieces. Interestingly, rather than making him seem more girlish, it serves to make sinister or bleak sounding music sound more unsettling.

* OneWingedAngel: Oogie, when faced with defeat, [[spoiler: ends up merging with a hill of holiday junk]].

* SavingChristmas: And the other holidays.

* TheProblemWithLicensedVideoGames: Thankfully averted. While ratings are around the 6-7/10 range, there's a large bit of CriticalDissonance, as user ratings are around the 7-8 range.

* TookALevelInBadass: Both Jack and Oogie. While Jack was very acrobatic in the film and had a bit of a clash with Oogie at the end, he didn't actually apply it to combat. Oogie is no longer a PlotIrrelevantVillain, but rather a bit of a MagnificentBastard with some pretty decent EvilOverlord vibes.

* TookAShortcut: Mr. Hyde gets everywhere before Jack, no matter how hard it was for him to get there.

* WhipItGood: Jack's primary weapon, the Soul Robber.

* AndYourRewardIsClothes: Though arguably most of the clothes are insanely ''awesome''.

* AsteroidsMonster: The Crypt Creeper Spider.
* AttackItsWeakPoint: Attack the Mega Spider's glowing butt.

** Dr. Finkelstein's song is also composed entirely of badass boasts from him.
* BadSanta: Oogie, if he succeeded.

* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Barrel reveals in their song that this is how they got the spiders to work for them, but exactly how it is done is never stated.
** There's also Dr. Finklestein, who is brain-switched and crazy
