to:

** The Daedric princes have significantly Princes are introduced here with some very different personalities than they do in and designs. Hircine, Hermaeus Mora, Nocturnal, and Peryite don't change, but the others vary considerably from later established points.
*** Azura has what is perhaps the greatest change; her Daggerfall incarnation is the petty Prince of vanity and egotism who appears as a topless woman with brown skin and blue hair, and she asks you to kill a healer for preaching humility and insulting her- a far cry from her
Morrowind appearance, where she resembles a Dark Elf, is fully clothed, is much more serious and on, perhaps most notably Azura. That said, they reasonable, and is associated with fate, prophecy, and mystery.
*** Boethiah is mostly the same, but is associated with murder, assassination, torture, and cruelty rather than crime, plots, and betrayal.
*** Clavicus Vile is also largely the same, but his nature as a JackassGenie is never mentioned and he's said to be a "politician of Oblivion" who stays carefully neutral in all affairs, aspects which would be dropped in later works.
*** Malacath appears as an orc, but he doesn't seem to be their EthnicGod. Instead, he's the Prince of Lies, Deception, and Hypocrisy, and is worshipped by nobles, spies, and people who engage in intrigue. In fact, the Malacath worshipper who gives you the reward for his quest has had someone assassinated, and you can get a reward by providing the ruler evidence of this.
*** Mehrunes Dagon's appearance and domains
are at least the same, but he speaks with an unusual speech pattern, such as referring to the player as "mortalcreature," which he doesn't have in all other speaking appearances.
*** Mephala is explicitly the divine patron of the Dark Brotherhood, while later appearances would mostly associate her with the Morag Tong and leave her involvement with the Dark Brotherhood a mere possibility.
*** Meridia is
called "Daedra" here."a collector of sorts" and the Lady of Greed, with no mention being made of her association with life and light and her hatred of necromancy. And while Meridia's association with greed would persist, her being a "collector" (and associated with people who hoard artifacts) is unique to Daggerfall; in later games she is instead greedy for adulation and worship, having an AllTakeAndNoGive relationship with her followers.
*** Namira is the Daedric Prince of Hunger, with her other spheres of the revolting & grotesque, ancient darkness, and decay (which is instead given to Vaermina) being entirely non-present.
*** Sheogorath being the MadGod is consistent, but he appears as a redhead who wears a green waistcoat, instead of being white-haired and wearing purple as he would in later appearances.
*** Vaermina is called the Prince of Corruption and Decay. The former sphere would later be given to Molag Bal (whose spheres aren't mentioned; he's instead said to be "the most power-mad of all Daedra," a statement that has remained consistent) and the latter to Namira, while Vaermina would instead be associated with Nightmares, though her staff would still be called the Skull of Corruption despite the domain change.
** The Night Mother is the living head of the Dark Brotherhood, and her DummiedOut appearance shows her to have dark skin and black hair. In Morrowind, she's the Imperial Severa Magia (who looks nothing like the Daggerfall Night Mother), and in Oblivion onwards, the Night Mother is the spirit of a woman who died in the 1st or 2nd eras, or possibly Mephala in disguise. Severa Magia is retconned as merely a local leader of the Brotherhood, but Daggerfalls version isn't.

Updated information on Daggerfall Unity from being in beta to being completed with version 1.0's release

A source port-like clone, called [=DaggerXL=], was in development since 2009 but later officially announced to be dead in 2020. Fortunately, a separate project called Daggerfall Unity, which renders the entire world of Daggerfall in the UsefulNotes/Unity engine, is also in development at the Daggerfall Workshop. Despite still being in the beta stages, it's evolved enough that the Daggerfall community now considers it to be the definitive way to play the game. In fact, in June 2022, it even got its own [=GOG=] release called Daggerfall Unity: [=GOG=] Cut, courtesy of Youtuber [=GamerZakh=]. This "official" release contains the core Daggerfall Unity build, plus a number of mods that improve the graphics and music, update the [=UI=], and provide a number of quality of life improvements. A run through of this build can be found here.

** In terms of the real meat of the gameplay, Daggerfall is still basically a first-person roguelike with a ton of other features and a main quest thrown in. Guilds are mainly focused on benefits & training, though unlike Arena they can be joined, and some of them have mini-arcs of two or three quests that follow on one another interspersed in the mainly random quests. Later games, beginning with Morrowind, would focus more on pre-written content and have a dedicated questline for each major joinable organization.

Daggerfall saw the series' transition into full 3D. The world is mostly flat with some hilly and mountainous areas, but the cities themselves feature solid houses and walls that are climbable and the dungeons just revel in the fact that you can cross over your own path on three or four different levels. Daggerfall is also the last game where Bethesda Software implemented procedural generation as a major part of the game. Additionally, the game has been recreated in VideoGame/TheElderScrollsVSkyrim as a mod, found hereLegendary Edition and hereSpecial Edition as Skygerfallpresumably, they chose that name because Skyfall was already taken - however, it's not a total conversion mod, since upon completion of the mod, you'll have the option of using your Skygerfall hero as a Dragonborn.

* ArtificialStupidity: Liches have AssholeVictim: One of the unhealthy tendency of blowing themselves up with their own spells.quests you can get from merchants and innkeepers involves the questgiver's lover getting kidnapped and ransomed, but the questgiver doesn't mind this at all since they cheated on them. In fact, they ask you to disrupt an attempt to rescue them, either by killing the person who's offering to pay the ransom, stealing the gem to be used for the ransom, or straight-up killing the lover.
