* AdaptationalAngstUpgrade: Leonardo and Donatello, like most of the other video games based on the original cartoon, are far more serious and angry here than in the show. Raphael takes this UpToEleven, as he behaves more like his [[Film/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles1990 film]] and [[WesternAnimation/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles2003 2003]] selves than the original cartoon, and even his HUD icon is scowling. Michelangelo is a lesser version, as he tends to be always smirking rather than having his bright and cheery smile.

It is based on the [[WesternAnimation/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles1987 original cartoon]] of the [[Franchise/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles franchise]] and will be released for PC, UsefulNotes/Playstation4, UsefulNotes/XBoxOne, and UsefulNotes/NintendoSwitch in 2022.

Bebop and Rocksteady have stolen some "gnarly devices" from Channel 6 News in order to support Shredder and Krang's latest evil plot. Naturally, this causes the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to get their shells in gear and storm the streets of New York City, the Technodrome, Dimension X, and beyond to stop Shredder from succeeding in his evil plan.

Playable characters include:
* Leonardo
* Donatello
* Raphael
* Michelangelo
* April O'Neil
* Master Splinter

The game is intended to harken back to the classic side-scrolling brawlers from Creator/{{Konami}}, specifically the [[VideoGame/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtlesTheArcadeGame original arcade game]] and the various versions of ''[[VideoGame/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtlesTurtlesInTime Turtles in Time]]''. Up to four players can join in, both local and online, and the attack options for each character have been considerably upgraded. The game uses a pixel art aesthetic, similar to ''Scott Pilgrim'', but features much more fluid animations than the original arcade games.

!Gnarly Tropes:
* AbsurdlySpaciousSewer: It's a ''Turtles'' game. Comes with the territory.
* AdaptationalAngstUpgrade: Leonardo and Donatello, like most of the other video games based on the original cartoon, are far more serious and angry here than in the show. Raphael takes this UpToEleven, as he behaves more like his [[Film/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles1990 film]] and [[WesternAnimation/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles2003 2003]] selves than the original cartoon. Michelangelo is a lesser version, as he tends to be always smirking rather than having his bright and cheery smile.
* AdaptationalBadass: April in the original cartoon was always a DistressedDamsel. This time, she hits just as hard as the Turtles do.
* AdaptationalCurves:
** Rocksteady is both more muscular and has a bigger gut than his cartoon self.
** The Turtles themselves are more muscular than the original cartoon's designs, especially in promo art. The proportions are actually closer to their [[WesternAnimation/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles2003 2003]] versions.
* AdaptationalModesty: Played with. April's jumpsuit isn't zipped as high as her model in ''VideoGame/NickelodeonAllStarBrawl'', but she still doesn't have any cleavage.
* AdaptedOut: Averted. Unlike the original cartoon series, this game will have the Triceratons.
* AnimalStampede: One level has the player trying to survive a stampede of animals released from the zoo.
* AnimatedCreditsOpening: The reveal trailer starts out with an animated sequence set to a remix of the original cartoon theme.
* AscendedExtra: April and Splinter were merely [=NPCs=] in the original Konami games. Here, they are playable.
* TheCameo: Vernon appears in one level, where he's kidnapped by Bebop.
* CombinationAttack: Two players can combine to use special moves for more damage. For example, one player can roll into a ball to be launched by another player, and both players can squash an enemy using their AssKicksYou attack.
* CounterAttack: One of the trailers shows Leonardo parrying a charge attack and countering it with a few wild strikes.
* DivergentCharacterEvolution: In the original arcade games, all of the Turtles essentially had the same walk and run cycles. Here, all of them have individualized animations that better fit their personalities. Furthermore, their attack animations are also all personalized. For example, Michelangelo's heavy attack has him using a headbutt, while Raphael uses a drop kick instead.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: April uses both her microphone and camera in her attacks.
* MicDrop: April does this as a taunt.
* MythologyGag:
** The revamped HUD was made to look closer to the ones used in the original arcade game and ''Turtles in Time''.
** Leonardo's swords are both on the same side of his back in the animated intro, like in some comics and [[WesternAnimation/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles2012 2012]] series. His sprite, however, lacks any sheaths, like his original cartoon design.
** Michelangelo's special attack is based on the scene in the opening where he is swinging his nunchuks around during a training scene.
** Splinter's special attack is based on his moves in the original cartoon's opening.
** The Rat King is fought in front of a busted version of the vehicle he fought the Turtles in ''Turtles in Time''.
** As always, Raphael's idle animation includes him twirling his sai around.
* ShoutOut: Most of April's moveset comes from various female fighters from the ''Franchise/StreetFighter'' games.
* SpiritualSuccessor: Is this to both ''[[VideoGame/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtlesTurtlesInTime Turtles in Time]]'', in an overall sense, and to the GBA ''WesternAnimation/{{TMNT}}'' game, which the staff previously worked on.
