** The female Doctor Octopus in the 2099 levels is stated to be Carolyn Trainer. This character is the daughter of Seward Trainer, a friend and mentor to Ben Reilly, the clone of Peter in the modern day in the Amazing Spider-Man timeline. Ben would later go on to become the Scarlet Spider before briefly becoming Spider-Man directly. In the course of his time as Spidey, he would battle Carolyn when she became the new Doctor Octopus.

** While not definite, it's likely the Juggernaut being in the game is a reference to the Creator/RogerStern story "Nothing Can Stop the Juggernaut", from Amazing Spider-Man 229-230. It's well remembered, and one of the very few times Spidey and the Juggernaut have fought. In fact, its climax was at a construction site- the same area where the Juggernaut is faced in SD.

The [[ToServeMan alien symbiote with a taste for human blood]] was held by SHIELD until they noticed that it and the resident [[MacGuffin mystical artifact]] had an interesting reaction, and [[JustThinkOfThePotential decided to keep testing]]. What they got was the entire Triskelion - SHIELD's headquarters - being covered with pulsating veins running through the walls and the doors, all made from the blood drained by every single human present.

The Amazing Universe seems like a comic book brought to life, the Noir Universe is grainy like an old film and sort of has a ''VideoGame/BatmanArkhamAsylum'' style, the 2099 Universe looks futuristic and ''{{Franchise/Tron}}''-esque, and the Ultimate Universe has the same art style as the ''VideoGame/UltimateSpiderMan'' game.
