Some give you a little more freedom due to multiple protagonists joining forces at that moment. * AntiFrustrationFeatures:
** The game supports both touch screen controls identical to the original game's, as well as a new button control scheme.
** You can only have up to three copies of a card at once. Any spares you get later are converted into Rupees, giving the player a refund if they bought a card pack and got extra dupes, or giving the player additional funding from beating AI opponents.
** The game strongly recommends using the Deck Code mechanic to acquire prebuilt deck recipes from [=NPCs=], many of which are fairly decent from the start and don't require much additional modification to fight same-rank opponents. You can also Pin Deck Codes that you don't have all the cards for, and the game will alert you if you come across a card needed to complete the Deck Code.
* CrashIntoHello: Narrowly averted; the player is introduced to Hiro when Hiro jumps out of a bush that the player was walking by and almost colliding with each other.

* PaperThinDisguise: When the player meets Alice Kurobane for the first time, she's wearing thick black sunglasses in an attempt to avoid recognition despite still looking almost exactly identical. The player, being a NewTransferStudent, doesn't recognize her, and agrees to hide her from her talent manager looking for her.
* ShowWithinAShow: Just like the anime, ''Shadowverse'' itself is an immensely popular digital CCG in-universe.

** A Tactical Take Two GP mode is a variation of Take Two exclusive to one Grand Prix. You draft pairs of cards like in regular Take Two, but this time, choosing a craft will let you draft from a card pool specified to a strategy and even permit you to make a deck comprised of cards from different crafts. It was certainly a shift from the usual by letting the playerbase experience combos they could never do on a regular basis.

* PoorPredictableRock: One piece of contested advice for newcomers is to essentially copy a tournament-winning deck and liquefy every single card from the crafts they're not playing to get the resources to put it together. While it can jump-start the player's early-game experience, it's detrimental to their collection as a whole and can lead to disastrous results when the one deck they've poured their resources into gets weakened or overshadowed.

Unique to the game is an evolve mechanic, which is enabled in each match after a few turns pass. Evolving typically gives the follower a sizeable attack boost, the ability to attack other followers without needing to wait, and can even enable additional abilities. Doing so costs evolve points and they are of limited supply without assistance of card effects; the player going first gets to do this twice, while the player going second gets three evolves and access to evolves one turn earlier to offset the first player's advantage.

* SerialEscalation: As per PowerCreep procedure, cards have simply gotten more complex over time, such that a recent card you'd see will have an entire paragraph of text describing what it does. You can sometimes see cards transform into entirely different cards or have a significantly different effect written into their evolved text box! Keywords and Tokens also contribute to the amount of mechanics you have to look into to fully grasp a card's abilities, and without any tutorial for newer mechanics, these can make it difficult for newer players to understand a card at a glance.
