* DropTheHammer: The Gods Hammer weapon, which can also be upgraded to smite enemies with [[ShockAndAwe lightning]].

* TheHerosBirthday: Hero's ''friend's'' birthday in this case. The day all this shit hits the fan happens to be Kinzie's birthday, and she pulls the "it's my birthday" card to go along with Gat to rescue the Boss.

** {{Wrath}}: TheArkOfTheCovenant, a gun and backpack that sucks in souls to shoot out explosively.

** {{Envy}}: Uriel's Edge, a FlamingSword that shoots out fireballs.

* AbusiveParents: Satan keeps Jezebel confined in her room. When she refuses to marry the Boss. he slaps her and sings that she "belongs to him" and that will be pain if she'll disobey him.

* UpToEleven: Instead of just fighting an AlienInvasion in {{Cyberspace}}, the Saints are literally [[ToHellAndBack invading Hell]] and taking on {{Satan}}.

* KnifeNut: Johnny Gat uses a pair of combat knives for his melee attacks.

* SomethingCompletelyDifferent: After a sci-fi romp fighting aliens in cyber-space as The Boss, this game now has you fighting through Hell, killing demons, and shooting the Devil in the face as Johnny Gat or Kinzie Kensington.

* OldSaveBonus: If you have data of ''Saints Row IV'', the Boss's appearance and voice will be what you used in that game, and is fully voiced as well. This no longer works for the Steam version, as ''SRIV'' was subsequently updated to have Steam workshop support and ''[=GOoH=]'' wasn't updated to detect the new save file format. That is, unless an [[https://www.saintsrowmods.com/forum/threads/import-boss-from-sr4-to-gooh.14763/page-3 import script]] is used.

* RealityEnsues: During the musical segment, Gat expresses doubt that their plan will work, noting it begins and ends with "shoot Satan in the face."

* DummiedOut: Given that this game is essentially a lite version of ''IV'', lots of stuff is still available in the game's archives, despite not being used (much):
** Every character customization option remains intact (as per the OldSaveBonus, see below), except for the clothing and hair from Anime Pack DLC. That being said, there is only a dozen of available outfits to use - but the graphics for Image as Designed, Planet Zin and Rusty's Needle are still there.
** Half of the available outfits work properly only on Gat and Kinzie's models. Gat's case is more interesting, though, in that, with some modding, you could dress him in his Super Homie duds.
** Despite the game doesn't appear to have any radio stations at all, there ''is'' one, technically, with eleven metal and dubstep songs, which you could casually hear from bypassing cars. All of said songs appear to replace 89.0 Generation X.
** Outside of stuff already available in ''IV'', according to unused game code, Shakespeare was going to be a boss fight with multiple phases and the ability to grow in size and use his skull against you.

* NotSoDifferent: When encountering Dex, he may call you out on disdaining him for working with Ultor, since Johnny and Kinzie are doing the same thing here.

* FireAndBrimstoneHell: "New Hades" is an inferno filled with flames and ash.

* GoodWingsEvilWings: The heroic Johnny and Kinzie have feathery angel wings, while the antagonist {{Satan}} has leathery demon wings. Interestingly, both sets belong to Satan, but the angel wings are his from his time as Lucifer the Morningstar, derived from his cracked halo.
* GrandFinale: To the Saints Row franchise as a whole.
* GrenadeLauncher: The frog launcher does this, shooting exploding frogs at enemies.

* HellGate: The Boss gets sucked into hell through a flaming portal.
* HellHasNewManagement: [[spoiler:One of the endings has Gat return to Hell to rule it as king.]]

** It should also be noted that New Hades has an entire entertainment district filled with strip clubs, casinos and other such attractions for this purpose. It's mostly rigged to cause suffering like every other part of the city, but at least it provides a nice change of pace from the crowded slums and demon patrolled streets.

* KnowledgeBroker: William Shakespeare reveals, in one of the documents scattered about New Hades, that he's got an intricate series of spies who tell him whatever he wants to know. The knowledge goes at least far enough that he knows about one of Vogel's Secret Weapons, the parts of which are kept at three Tacos Malos.
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: When meeting Dex he will sometimes remark that he was content with being forgotten, but people prefer digging up the past. This sounds like a reference to Dex's [[AbortedArc previous status]] and the complaints about it.

* MonsterAllies: The "Summon" power lets you summon one of three demonic allies to help you in combat. The available demons are Imps, Spires, and [[BossInMookClothing Legionnaires]].

* PlanetHeck: The entire game takes place here.

* PowerTattoo: Johnny and Kinzie get superpowers in Hell from a supernatural arm covered in glowing tattoos.

** This also applies to the demons the player summons.

* RealityEnsues: During the musical segment, Gat expresses doubt that their plan will work, noting it begins and ends in "shoot Satan in the face."

* UpgradeArtifact: Vogel uses Satan's cracked halo to give Johnny and Kinzie their powers. Also, there are Altars scattered around Hell that grant new elements for your powers.

* WhyDontYouJustShootHim: Inverted. Johnny seems to resort to his gun too much. Although it did get the spiritual board to stop mocking them and let him and Kinzie enter hell.

* XanatosGambit: Vogel sees helping the Saints against Satan as this: if Satan beats Gat, Ultor gets a load of reconstruction contracts to repair the mayhem Gat caused, if Gat beats Satan, he pays less taxes.

* OldSaveBonus: If you have data of ''Saints Row IV'', the Boss's appearance and voice will be what you used in that game, and is fully voiced as well. Except for the Steam version, since the update adding Steam Worshop support to ''SRIV'' changed the format of the save file, and ''[=GOoH=]'' wasn't updated to detect the new format.

* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: played more-or-less straight, with Gat's stated goal to simply shoot Satan in the face, and later punching him into submission.

* NeverLiveItDown: An in-universe example. Troy was damned to Hell for betraying the Saints, even though he was just doing his duty, he was generally a good person, and how he would later use his influence to help the Saints. Unfortunately for Troy, traitors always go to Hell, regardless of their motivations or later acts of redemption.
** At least Legal Lee's Torment Fraud scheme should help.

* TakeThat: One of Kinzie's walking lines says that the Saints let you play as girls (a knock on recent controversies over games like ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoV'' and ''VideoGame/AssassinsCreedUnity'').

** Achievement names include "[[Film/TheLordOfTheRings Fly, You Fools]]", "[[Series/TheDukesOfHazzard Hazardous Dukes]]", "[[ComicBook/{{Hellboy}} Hell Buoy]]", "[[Franchise/AssassinsCreed Saints' Creed]]" and "Film/{{Top Gun}}ner". In addition, the icon for "Extra Crispy" has [[Film/Terminator2JudgmentDay a forearm sticking out of lava giving a thumbs up.]] In fact, if you die in the lava, you'll either sink in like that, or flipping the bird.

* TheVillainMakesThePlot: The latest Third Street Saints' adventure is caused by {{Satan}} kidnapping The Boss, forcing Kinzie and Johnny to go ToHellAndBack to rescue them.

* VirtualPaperDoll: Averted. Johnny and Kinzie basically wear the same outfits the whole game.

** Averted with the cutscenes, where no matter who you play, the dialogue is unchanged, and even still refers to Gat when you played as Kinzie, thanks to the fact that half of the cutscenes are actually FMVs.
