* NotTheIntendedUse: The Detail Plank is a decorative item that consists of a plank whose length and direction can be adjusted by the player. Notably, the plank can not only be stood on top on, but while you need to attach one end to something in order to begin placing one, you can attach the other end into thin air, which also gives you a space to start placing another Detail Plank. Through this, one can easily use this item meant for decorative purposes into an item that allows you to skip puzzles and SequenceBreak everything the game has to offer (up to and including the final boss) by building insanely-long one-plank-wide bridges with it, provided that you have the resources needed to build these bridges in the first place.

** Obtaining bee jars is one of the most tedious tasks in the game as bees only spawn in specific large islands, and don't respawn until the player leaves the island and has at least traveled to where the island is no longer a blip on the navigation system. But once players collect bee jars, they can then create their own beehives which, combined with a few small crop plots to plant flowers, they can easily get a healthy source of honeycomb. Which then can be combined with glass to create two honey jars. This allows players to pump as much biofuel as possible to put inside a biofuel tank to power the engines and later on, charge batteries with the battery charger, saving planks for other uses.

Then you find [[spoiler: the abandoned radio tower that creepily creaks every now and then]]. Gets topped later by entering [[spoiler: Vasagatan]] which also is pitch dark ''and'' filled with enemies.

* ProtagonistWithoutAPast: Played with. The notebook has a bunch of advice from an older sister, together with a family picture. It is unclear what happened to her and impossible to find the original home location (if it even still exists).

It is unclear what happened to her and impossible to find the original home location (if it even still exists). In the Final Chapter, this gets updated when players look at the very first page when the player unlocks new characters.

* RedEyesTakeWarning: Downplayed but in the Final Chapter update, players can purchase an Advanced Scarecrow from large islands from the Trade Post where seagulls will never try to attack it due to wearing red glasses that glow in the night, giving out this effect.

* RisingWaterRisingTension: [[spoiler:At Tangaroa, the ceiling door that the player opens floods the entire area, requiring players to backtrack to find pockets of air. This also allows access to the plantation area as the ladder leading to said area is broken.]]
* RodentsOfUnusualSize: Lurkers are dog-sized mutant rats you first encounter on the wreck of the ''Vasagatan''. While fast, they're fairly weak and will go down in a few hits. The Lurkers you encounter later in the game in [[spoiler: the domed city of Tangaroa]] are a bit tougher.

* SkippableBoss: If you don't feel up to fighting [[spoiler: Mama Bear on Balboa Island]], you can gather berries to distract her while you explore her lair for the items you need to progress.
* StoryBreadcrumbs: The player can find a few notes, read some newspapers on the windows of a shack and listen to a few of the radio announcements to find out what happened/is happening. Eventually this builds up to important coordinates that the player has to visit -- first is what looks like an abandoned science platform, which then leads you to an abandoned pleasure yacht, then to a bear reserve, then to what looked like to be a whole town founded (fairly recently) by survivors like you, which ''then'' leads you [[spoiler:to an ''actual'' floating domed city, Tangaroa.]]

** Gathering titanium ores to make titanium ingots is without a doubt the hardest task to do in the game as titanium ores only spawn in certain islands and the trader shop but only if the player achieves the highest reputation. Otherwise, players would have to dig them out of the ground with the help of a metal detector and if RandomNumberGod isn't kind to the player as there is one in four chances that it won't contain titanium, then they'll just dig out stuff that isn't titanium. But once enough titanium ingots are made, then players can make advanced stuff like battery chargers, an engine control, advanced purifiers, grills, and much more.
