* {{Deconstruction}}: Of DeconReconSwitch: The story deconstructs of what happens to all the monsters that cause RandomEncounters in a game; examining some posters at HQ in the beginning reveals that the creatures that Eve mutated in New York broke out of the Navy's quarantine zone and began multiplying while spreading across the United States. This led to many organizations being created to exterminate the "Neo-Mitochondrion Creatures", which were eventually unified under the FBI's banner as the Mitochondrion Investigation and Suppression Team. On the other hand, it is reconstructed with how the army, specifically the Marines, are more than prepared to handle such monsters, with a squad of them easily taking out a bunch of illegally-made clone super soldiers.

* CoolGuns: Not quite as many in the previous game, but still plenty for gun lovers to drool over. Aya herself may be something of a minor gun nut, if her amazement at Mr. Douglas's WallOfWeapons is any indication. Though she does say it's part of her job to know guns.

* PermanentlyMissableContent: Some items can't be found if you progress too far, mostly the Akropolis stuff, since it's the one place you can never backtrack to. There's also a weird case of a ''clue'' being lost forever. Four mysterious riddles are written throughout Dryfield, each giving you a number and telling you where the next clue is (the prize is the safe combination with a rare item in it). One of these four riddles, though, is in a very easy-to-miss spot (a window looking out on the desert) which is ''right'' before a local boss fight, after which it becomes night and you can't see the riddle anymore. Some items can't be found if you progress too far, mostly the Akropolis stuff, since it's the one place you can never backtrack to. Most notably is a keycard that opens the armoury in the shelter, in this case you also miss all items there, especially a new shotgun.
** If Flint (the dog) dies, not only will you miss the good ending, you also have to say goodbye to a lot of useful stuff that otherwise becomes available in Dryfield. Like a new machine pistol, a new vest or the ofuda (for which you must save Pierce which is easy to screw up), and even more stuff near the end.

* SequelDifficultySpike: Due to several major gameplay changes[[note]] tank controls with changing camera angles ala ''Franchise/ResidentEvil'', no traditional JRPG elements like stats and leveling up, a ''much'' lower base HP stat, and no revival mechanic. [[/note]], the game is considerably much harder than the first game and it's very easy to die if you don't adapt to the controls and learn how to dodge attacks.

* BoringButPractical: Of all the cool weaponry you can get in the game, they're either too expensive/unavailable until later in the game or AwesomeButImpractical. Pistols are probably the best weapon to keep with you throughout the game. It's due to the fact that the game's critical hit are absurdly high with single shot weapons (including the paltry [=P08=]) and you get infinite basic pistol ammo in the form of random ammo boxes. Many strategies recommend you use nothing but pistols in the harder modes solely because of this fact.
