They are attacked by a flood of mini Paper Macho Goombas in Hotfoot Crater, disappearing and implied to be dead, and yet are completely fine in time for Olly's defeat and the Origami Festival. Princess Peach herself was also permanently warped into a stained-glass window and treated as dead, only to also be revived by the end by Olivia's wish.]]

* AnAesop: Life is what you make of it. You can choose to waste it giving into hatred or choose to make the most of what time you have.

* NonLethalBottomlessPit: One of the game's main mechanics. Everywhere in the game world, there are bottomless pits that you can fill with confetti. Falling in one is not much more than a slap on the wrist, as they cause seven HP of damage and just inexplicably throw you out again.

* ConvientlyPreciseTranslation: To complete the Scorching Sandpaper Desert level, Professor Toad must translate ancient markings to give the player clues on where to find key items and how to complete tasks to progress the game. The translations all are in perfect rhyme and even use wordplay, like conflating “feat” and “feet.” Assuming they were written to rhyme and play on words in their original language, it’s extremely unlikely that translating them into English (or other language selected by the player) would wield the same rhyme schemes and puns.

** Upon entering the Shogun Studios Theater, Mario is met with a packed house full of toads seemingly waiting for the performance to begin. However if the player has the Toad Bell equipped, which rings when there is a toad in trouble nearby, it will ring as soon as he enters the theater revealing that the roads are here against their will.

* TheFourGods: Living in four temples are the Vellumentals, origami beings with elemental powers that include a dragon, phoenix, turtle, and polar bear. They've been corrupted thanks to Olly, but beating them allows Olivia to transform into them to solve puzzles.

To elaborate, it turns out there are six members of the [[QuirkyMinibossSquad Legion of Stationery]], not five like what was previously assumed, Peach gets embedded into the walls of the throne room of Origami Castle, Olly attempts ''[[FinalSolution genocide]]'' using a ThousandOrigamiCranes, Mario almost dies multiple times during the final battle, and then when the final battle is over, Olly [[RedemptionEqualsDeath redeems himself]], and, to top it all off, the Origami Craftsman arrives and teaches Olivia how to fold an origami crane which Olivia uses the resulting wish to [[HeroicSacrifice sacrifice herself.]]]]
