* NeutralsCrittersAndCreeps: There are various neutral creatures scattered through the game maps. Most of them are harmless and can be used as a target practice, but then there are smilodons, who are going to have your non-soldiers for breakfast, easily killing people. Apemen, while initially just part of the scenery, can be later tamed and, depending on faction, be either pack-mule engineers (Americans), low-tier soldiers (Soviets) or suicidal bombers (Arabs).

* HealthyGreenHarmfulRed: The health bar starts in green (where units can even slowly regenerate health back to full capacity), then goes yellow. Once it turns red, units drop unconscious and even if not attacked any longer, will continue to drop their health without medical help, while vehicles and buildings become non-operational and will require repair to bring them back at least back to yellow.

* CantDropTheHero: No matter what, you have either [=Macmillan=] or Burlak in your roster for a given mission, depending on which campaign you are playing. And if they die, it's instant game-over.

Dark Skinned Blond is no longer a trope

** He is also a major Character in Russian campaign wherehe serves as th main antagonist and arch-rival to Burlak who serves as TheProtagonist in Russian campaign. Also if Burlak switches to Alliance Macmillan will share this position with Burlak.

** In Russian campaign he shares this position with John MacMillan. Eventhough Platonov is formally on the same side as Burlak he still acts antagonistically against him and its implied that he repeatedly got Burlak into trouble to get rid of him. In level 12 its played straight.

Chained Sinkhole and Army Of One seems like it's a former trope name.

* ArmyOfOne: One particular mission has you holding off an entire army--which includes tanks--with just two characters. After holding out successfully, you are then tasked with assaulting the enemy base--with the same two characters.

* BusCrash: A number of characters in the American campaign are killed offscreen such as [[spoiler:Ron Harrison and Jeremy Sikorski. Andy Cornell looks like another example at first, but will survive if the right choices have been made]].

* WarCrimeSubvertsHeroism: At certain point, both campaigns require you to kill people who are not a threat. Notably, to set up the proper tone for it, the very first thing you do in the Soviet campaigns is DressingAsTheEnemy and killing unsuspecting, newly arrived American soldier.

Added DiffLines:

* SequenceBreaking:
** Downplayed in general, but in certain missions it is possible to haul resources to your destination point before the game will tell you you have to do that, saving precious time and thus having much better chance at mounting proper defenses.
** Even if the mission doesn't ask you for this, make sure you always have at least a single character as engineer. This way, you can always capture buildings, make your own and move resources around.
** Knowing beforehand about allows to simply prioritise sniper research and park your units in such position, the second the event happens, you will gun enemy units down before they can even reach armory. In that same mission, if you know the area in which , you can easily heal him without much issues.

Not bad for a handful of car mechanics and theoretical physicists using prefabricated parts. There is some FridgeBrilliance in that they come from a timeline where unique properties of "Alaskite" were well-known for years.
