* {{Foreshadowing}}: Violet [[spoiler: having affection for Green]] is foreshadowed numerous times. For example, [[spoiler: both of them are the only characters that speak in smallcaps, Violet is seen clutching Green tightly in the Neon group photo, and Violet never explicitly says who her crush really is. While White and the audience assume its him, hindsight makes it clear that it is really Green.]]

*** Conversely, this is played straight with the specifics of the tracks, [[spoiler: particularly in Yellow's relationship. He's the only character in the game who's tracks eventually become a straight shot of Sidequests with occasional Memories. The eventual absence of Dialogue moments suggest that Yellow won't be present to have them, and if you're diligent with your gift collecting, this change begins to manifest not long before his eventual death. At the same point in the story, Red and Violet's tracks continue alternating for much longer, spoiling the fact that they're likely to survive into the endgame.]]

* AirDashing: Two variants.
** The Godspeed card is a more traditional air dash, quickly propelling you forward horizontally.
** The Fireball card is not limited to the horizontal plane, but is slightly slower and affected by gravity. Both variants will destroy all enemies and obstacles in its path.

* BadassInANiceSuit: White, with his pretty snazzy coat and tie.

* BunniesForCuteness: A bunny mask serves to help indicate Violet as a cutesy, upbeat, childish girl, in contrast to White's demonic mask.

* CigarChomper: Mikey, DaChief of Heaven Central Authority, is never seen without a cigar.

* CuteAndPsycho: Violet is just as easily provoked into a shrieking, violent rage as she is inclined to {{Squee}}ing over cute little animals and hot guys.

* DontThinkFeel: Yellow tells White this after White rebuffs his attempts at partnership; he's not giving wise advice so much as [[DumbMuscle looking for someone to bro around with]].
* TheDreaded: Neon Green is introduced by the Believers as "vicious and hulking". He then immediately attacks a Neon who questions his fighting prowess, and the rest cower in fear. Red refuses to tell White who he is, only saying to stay away from him; Violet being [[CuteAndPsycho Violet]], though, seems more [[InLoveWithYourCarnage turned on than anything]].

* ForceAndFinesse: Yellow and White respectively; Yellow is more brash and gung-ho while White is more straightforward and precise.
* GenkiGirl: Violet's squeaky-voiced and upbeat energy is a sharp contrast to both the serene heavenly host and the rest of the sullen demon slayers.
* GoKartingWithBowser: Several Heavenly Delight rewards have White spend time with other Neons, which can include his arch-nemesis Green.
* GoodIsNotNice: The pretentious, self-righteous Believers don't hide their blatant belief in their own superiority over the Neons, and cheerfully rebuke any attempts they make at indulging in Heaven's delights. [[BreadEggsMilkSquick Also, the masks on the Neons' faces are rigged to explode if they rebel]].
* GoombaStomp: Balloon Demons die when they're stepped on. As a nice bonus, they give you an upward boost at the same time.

* HitmanWithAHeart: Though his [[AmnesiacHero memories are gone]], White notes that his drive to win the competition "feels a lot like guilt".
* IWorkAlone: Spoken verbatim by White, who rebuffs any attempt the rest of the Neons make at teaming up with him.

* LadyInRed: Exemplified by, well, [[MeaningfulName Red]]. With red as her motif color, she's elegant, aloof, flirtatious, and frighteningly competent with a sniper rifle.

* NightmareFetishist: To Violet, things like plushies and cupcakes are on the same level of "adorable" as bloodied weapons and splattered viscera.

* OurAngelsAreDifferent: The angels at Heaven Central Authority appear to White as, of all things, [[RidiculouslyCuteCritter cute little cats]]. [[AppearanceIsInTheEyeOfTheBeholder Their appearances differ based on the viewer's psyche]] because YouCannotGraspTheTrueForm, so while White and Red see the angels as cats, [[DumbMuscle Yellow]] sees them as... Wrestling/JohnCena.
* PerkyGoth: White refers to Violet as an "alt girl". She wears a black jacket, skirt, and collar, and is incessantly cheerful.

* SassySecretary: Gabby, the secretary at Heaven Central Authority. She has a thick Minnesotan accent, and is sharp-tongued and fond of playing pranks.
* ShipperOnDeck: Violet apparently wrote a "crazy fanfic" about herself and... someone she interrupts Yellow from saying. [[CuteAndPsycho By mauling him]].

* TakingTheBullet: Yellow claims to have done this for White during the first mission. [[SubvertedTrope He was kidding]]. [[spoiler:[[DoubleSubversion Then he tragically ends up doing this for real]] when he jumps in front of White to save him from Neon Green's attack, killing Yellow in the process.]]

Added DiffLines:

** On reaching Gold Rank a hint sphere will appear in the level drawing the player's attention to a shortcut that should give them the boost they need to reach Ace rank. This can be disabled should the player want to figure things out on their own.
** Orange wall tiles typically appear near sections requiring rocket jumps to ascend, and blue tiles tell the player where to shoot their grappling hook.
** White can take two normal shots before dying and health drops appear in levels to ensure that taking a couple of glancing hits won't end a run.
** Vending machines dispense additional Soul Cards. These are typically too slow to help when going for a good time, but they help first-time players avoid getting stuck and the cards are often needed to find a collectable.
