''Myst III: Exile'' is the third game in the ''VideoGame/{{Myst}}'' series. This was the first ''Myst'' game not made by the Miller brothers, who handed off development to Presto Studios, the developers of ''VideoGame/TheJourneymanProject'' (the ''other'' big real-actor-using first-person AdventureGame series), though Rand Miller reprises his role as Atrus. Despite not being developed by Creator/{{Cyan}}, it's included in the story canon. The game was released in 2001 for PC and UsefulNotes/AppleMacintosh, and in 2002 for UsefulNotes/{{Xbox}} and UsefulNotes/PlayStation2. It was published by Creator/{{Ubisoft}}.

* NoPlansNoPrototypeNoBackup: The Releeshahn book is not only the one linking book to the Age Atrus has, it's the descriptive book he used to create and continue modifying it. Even if harming the book itself won't affect the Age (and Saavedro can't even open the book, let alone knows the Art to write into it), losing it would be a major loss to Atrus' efforts in the D'ni's restoration, to say nothing of losing contact with them forever due to the aforementioned lack of other links.

to:

* NiceJobBreakingItHero: The game's events unfold because Atrus took a trip of reflection to J'nanin after finishing his work on Releeshahn, not long enough to find Saavedro but enough for him to see Atrus link out and find the book to Tomahna he left behind, allowing the exile to start plotting revenge.
** An element of ForWantOfANail also comes into play as Atrus missed J'nanin when exploring past ages in preparation for writing Releeshahn, and reflects in his journal that visiting the Age earlier could've sped up his process. Who can say what an encounter with Saavedro would've been like in his less-sane mindset or the Stranger to intervene.
