* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: If you manage to score with Peach's Hyper Strike in ''Battle League'', all the players on the opposing team will be infatuated. Even Daisy, Rosalina and Pauline, and ''[[DistractedByMyOwnSexy Peach herself]]'' if she's also on the other team.

* TwoGirlsToATeam: Not counting the Birdos that can appear as sidekicks during matches, Peach and Daisy are the only female playable characters in the first two games. The third game was the same at launch, with Peach and Rosalina being the only two female characters in the roster, but this would later become averted when Daisy was announced as part of the first update pack. In addition, Pauline was announced as part of the second update pack too.

* AscendedExtra: Toad and Shy Guy go from being sidekicks in the first two games to major playable characters in ''Battle League''. Likewise, Bowser went from an occasional stage hazard in the first game to a major playable character in ''Charged'' onwards.

** The art style compared to other Mario titles. [[{{Stripperiffic}} The female captains' clothing]]. The male characters' constant angry scowls. Headbutting players into an electric fence. ''Mario Strikers Charged'' was the first game in the Mario franchise to receive an ESRB E10+ and PEGI 7+ rating, as opposed to the E and 3+ rating that most of the games have. Granted, the series does so in a very tongue-in-cheek manner, as the game takes itself as seriously as any other Mario spinoff (which is to say, not at all).
** [[ActionGirl Peach and Daisy,]] all the way in this game. They're not that interested in trying to look pretty in this game and are much more interested in kicking ass and playing as brutally as everyone else.
** In-series, ''Charged'' for the original game. The latter, while gimmicky, was still a rather straightforward depiction of soccer. ''Charged'', however, took the rules and turned them on their heads so hard it can be pretty ludicrous.

** Daisy does this to her ''teammates'' when a goal is scored against her. It's enough to make them [[OhCrap quiver and hold each other in fear.]]
** DK's Mega Strike. He appears to be trying to kill the ball with eye hatred.

** Bowser is non-playable, instead appearing as a stage hazard while generic robots called "Super Team" take his place.
** The Soccer Balls used in the game also differ being more realistic ones as opposed to the series usual electronic balls. The traditional Soccer Balls however are used as items in the VideoGame/SuperSmashBros series.

*** Some of the sidekick skillshots too, such as Dry Bones [[ShockAndAwe electrifying the ball]] or Toad's [[PlayingWithFire fireball shot]].
** ''Battle League'' Hyper Strikes change things just a bit. Both Mario and Bowser now share a fire-themed shot. Peach's is a more traditional HeartBeatDown. Wario is added to the list of electricity users alongside DK and Luigi (the latter now employing wind as well in his shot). Newcomer Rosalina's shot is [[AnIcePerson ice-themed]], while Toad is now DishingOutDirt with an underground shot.

* GameBreakingBug: There is a glitch which causes the ball to go through the opponent's goalie if a Boo charges the ball then disappears into his goalie, prompting Boo's goalie to pick the ball up and pass it normally. The other goalie will be unable to block the ball in any capacity. Some online players will opt to score goals solely through this glitch.

* HotterAndSexier: Peach and Daisy fall under this trope in the first two games, wearing skimpier outfits there than in any previous game in the franchise.

* LighterAndSofter: ''Mario Strikers: Battle League'' tones down the over-the-top DarkerAndEdgier tone the series is so known for, which is reflected in both the art style and the character animations.
* LimitBreak: Captains in both games have a special move called a Super Strike in ''Super Mario Strikers'' and a Mega Strike in ''Mario Strikers Charged''. Sidekicks in ''Charged'' have their own special moves called skillshots.
* MadeOfIron: Everyone involved but special mention goes to Kritter who doesn't let having his hands set on fire stop him from punching out anyone coming into the box.
* MakeMeWannaShout: Bowser Jr.'s Mega Strike consists of him unleashing a supersonic scream at the ball.

* MusicalNod: Boo's theme is a remixed Merry-Go-Round from ''VideoGame/SuperMario64''.

** The ''Charged'' credits, in which a lone Super Team robot mops the floor, pay {{Homage}} to the credits of ''[[Series/TheCarolBurnettShow Carol Burnett and Friends]]''.

* TookALevelInJerkass: More or less the whole cast compared to their classic depictions (even when ignoring the villains) is subjected to this in ''Charged''. From Peach and Diddy throwing a tantrum when the opposing team scores, to Yoshi apparently growling at his opponents, to Daisy stomping over to her teammates for her to obviously take her anger out on them... the only real exceptions are Mario, who quickly regains his composure, and Luigi, whose worst act is basically a DeathGlare.

* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: If you manage to score with Peach's Hyper Strike in ''Battle League'', all the players on the opposing team will me infuriated. Even Daisy, Rosalina and Pauline, and ''[[DistractedByMyOwnSexy Peach herself]]'' if she's also on the other team.

** Stages and Characters lacked unique themes which would become a mainstay starting with ''Charged'' which becomes especially apparent as no background music is used in the stages.
** Bowser is also non playable, instead appearing as a stage hazard while generic robots called "Super Team" take his place.

** Waluigi does the [[Wrestling/DGenerationX D-Generation X's Crotch Chop]] when he scores. Yes, he just told the Mushroom Kingdom and his opponents to suck it. In ''Battle League'', one of his goal animations has him do the Vince [=McMahon=] strut.

* ThreePointLanding: Mario does this as his entrance intro in both Charged and Battle League.

* AssKickingPose:
** The Home and Away entrances.
** The mega strikes have a brief pose before unleashing hell on the enemy goalie.

* BadassAdorable: Yoshi. He kicks just as much ass as everyone else, but when he scores a goal, he'll sometimes playfully chase his own tail while giggling.
** Diddy and Bowser Jr. are this to a lesser extent, judging from their victory animations.
** Some of your sidekicks also qualify too, especially with their celebrations. Ranging from Hammer Bro's playful slide when he scores to Toad breakdancing.

* GlowingEyesOfDoom: Many of the captains get these when they do a Mega Strike (Petey is an exception because he has none).

* {{Leitmotif}}: Each playable character in ''Charged'' and has one. ''Battle League'' also has this feature, although all of them go for a rock sound.

* MakeMeWannaShout: Bowser Jr.'s Mega Strike.

* PromotedToPlayable: Bowser became this between the first two games. In the first one, he just popped into the field randomly to cause chaos.

* SayMyName: Daisy does this when Wario uses his [[{{Gasshole}} Gas Mask ability]] on her.

* ShoutOut: A few:

Further averted in ''Battle League'' where you can customize the armor to increase your character’s stats (at the cost of other stats).

* BareYourMidriff: Peach and Daisy's uniforms. Also [[FanDisservice Waluigi's]]. Averted in ''Battle League'', however.

* JackOfAllStats: Mario is obviously this, but so is Yoshi, with Luigi joining their ranks in ''Charged''. ''Battle League'' initially averted this by making both Mario brothers technical players instead, while Yoshi is repurposed into an offensive player, with no actual Balanced category. However, as of the July 21, 2022 update which added him as a playable character, Shy Guy is now this.

** Averted in ''Battle League'', as the outfits of the female characters are way less revealing than in past games and there aren't as many camera shots centered around the girls' rears or busts, if at all. Special mention goes to Rosalina for having light blue sleeves to make her even less revealing.

** Peach averts this in ''Battle League'' if her team loses. She starts to get angry, but manages to calm herself down before walking off the field.

The captains each have special animations of them getting very upset, which plays sometimes when they're losing badly in a match. Special mention goes to Petey, who decides to attack one of the opposing team's players and ''[[JustEatHim eat them]] out of rage.''

* Damn You Muscle Memory:
** The first two games had A mapped to pass the ball and B mapped to shoot. Battle League switches them so A is shoot and B is pass.
