* WhatTheHellPlayer: During the course of investigating Desiree Lathan's murder, Miles needs to contact a lawyer she has spoken to but runs into the roadblock when he is asked by said lawyer's secretary to bring him evidence of her death, in order to get an appointment. If Miles [[spoiler:previously picked up some of Lathan's ashes]], this gets the player option to show the secretary [[spoiler:said ashes]] as his "proof". Predictably, the poor guy is rather horrified at the sight of [[spoiler:charred human remains]] and tells Miles to leave the office immediately or he will have him arrested and refuses to speak with him anyone. It nets the player [[AchievementMockery an achievement]] called "[[spoiler:Total Ash-hole]]", and Bill also calls Miles (and the player) on out what he did.

** If you declare two or more of cases 1-4 to be unsolvable, [[spoiler:Miles will admit himself into an insane asylum whereupon he volunteers to be put into a drugged-up stupor so he'll stop hearing Bill's voice]].

This also the only ending where it is impossible to fix things with Adelaide.
* EarnYourBadEnding: The worst possible version of the ending where Miles [[spoiler:gets arrested]] happens if you don't fix things with Adelaide and then throw Upton under the bus. In this scenario, [[spoiler:Miles has no friends left on the outside to help him or even visit him]] and he has no one to blame but himself.

* FriendOnTheForce: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]]. Constance Upton is a desk clerk, not an officer, but is otherwise Miles only ally on the force. She is very good at slipping Miles info from the department and she always sends Miles payment from the departments good samaritan fund.

* MeaningfulBackgroundEvent: In the opening, you can look at a blimp called the HMS Ligeia, and Miles will briefly mention some of the details of the voyage. Later, you learn that the blimp crashed into a park, killing not only everyone there, but everyone on board as well. While not directly involved in the main story, the effects of the crash bleed into all the other cases in the game.

Later, you learn that the same blimp crashed into a park, park that night, killing not only everyone there, but everyone on board board, but several people who were in the park as well. While not directly involved in the main story, the effects of the crash bleed into all the other cases in the game.game and somewhat directly leads into case 4.

Added DiffLines:

* UndyingLoyalty: Constance Upton is Miles best and closest (living) friend and sticks her neck out for him throughout, be it slipping Miles info from the department or letting him crash at her place when Adelaide throws him out. Upton will only turn on Miles if he throws her under the bus first.

* StraightGay: In the fourth case, [[spoiler:Roland and Jimbo]] were in a relationship. The latter outright confesses to it in an underground pub. [[spoiler: Roland]]'s sister has no idea that he was gay, and in fact seems mildly obsessed with finding him a "lady friend" so he won't be lonely.

* AmericaIsStillAColony: In this universe, Technically Vespuccia/America is its own country at this point, but it stayed with the British Empire far longer than it did in real life.life.

Added DiffLines:

* DifferentStatesOfAmerica: For one thing, the country is called Vespuccia. The folks in New Bretagne vote for a Prime Minister, retain certain British spellings, and have a flag with the Union jack on it. There's also a lot of Louisiana-esque French influence mixed with the city's otherwise British-influenced culture.

* TheCoroner: New Bretagne police force's local medical examiner, Dr. Malcolm Edwards, is still on friendly terms with Miles, despite him having quit the force, so he is quite willing to unofficially help him out with some of the technical medical questions he might stumbles on in the course of his investigations. He also likes to crack very dry jokes about his work with bodies all the while.
