* HintSystem: PlayedForLaughs. You can ask your harem for advice in completing the puzzles, but they rarely give good advice. The only one who kind of gives advice is Pandemonica, but she only shows up in the first few levels.

* AuthorAppeal: In the art book, Vanripper admits ''Helltaker'' was made to appeal to his desire for demon girls in sharp suits. He also notes in annoyance how male demons are given suits, [[DoubleStandard but female demons]] [[HotAsHell basically never are]].

* AllForNothing: Overall, the only character that even seems romantically interested in the Helltaker is [[spoiler: Beelzebub, and possibly Modeus, if her being only one hugging him in the normal ending slide is any indication]]. The rest of the girls never actually seem to actually come to view the Helltaker as a romantic partner, and Azazel is implied to be a lesbian who is only interested in 'studying' the Demons. Though, given that Helltaker still keeps them around means that he's quite happy with having friends, so this trope isn't as bad as it would be.

* PrisonDimension: Justice sealed Beelzebub away in the Abyss, an endless dark void. By inputting a secret code on the rub in the Helltaker's house, you can open a portal to this Abyss.

* RealityEnsues: By the Epilogue, the Helltaker learns that having a harem of demon girls does not stop them from constantly misbehaving, bossing him around, constantly wrecking his stuff, and stabbing him in the back (oftentimes literally). Beelzebub says that since life is already full of suffering, he may as well enjoy himself sometimes.

* DeathIsASlapOnTheWrist: While running out of moves on any puzzle or running out of health on the FinalBoss results in death, you get infinite lives to try and solve them. The aforementioned boss even has checkpoints so you don't get set back too much if (read: when) you die.

* FrenchMaid: Invoked: Justice tells Helltaker to try making Lucifer her slave instead of the other way around, and Lucifer angrily tells her to not try to get people killed, to which Justice notes that she would enjoy maid roleplay. Given that Lucifer's secretary's proper title is "the Sadist Demon", she is probably making a decent guess.

The first is in her hint dialogue for Zdrada's level, where she mentions [[VideoGame/{{CryptOfTheNecrodancer}} "rhythm based dungeon crawlers"]]. In her bit during the FinalBoss fight, she says the Helltaker "played Necropolis anyway", referring to the playable faction in ''VideoGame/HeroesOfMightAndMagic'' notorious for being overpowered.
