The Puppet is only ever referred to as an "it" in this game.

* BigBad: One would think that it's Toy Freddy at first, but once you see the minigames, you find out that the ''true'' Big Bad is The Puppet — for he is the reason why the animatronics were haunted in the first place. [[spoiler:Though check out the BigGood entry below to see exactly ''why'' The Puppet did what he did.]]
* BigGood: Although this isn't fully explained until the third game in the series, [[spoiler:The Puppet]] takes up this role. His erratic behavior in the minigames, such as [[spoiler:guiding Freddy through a blood-splattered and severely ravaged restaurant]] and [[spoiler:affixing the heads of the animatronics onto the dead children[[note]]in what is heavily implied to be a metaphor for the children being stuffed into the animatronics[[/note]]]] are all a result of his attempt, not only at getting [[spoiler:revenge against the Murderer]], but also in an attempt to [[spoiler:save his next victims]].

** Also implied with The Puppet. During one of the mini-games, [[spoiler:he is shown either running away or leading Freddy through the restaurant, with the words S.A.V.E.T.H.E.M. being spelled out in the background. The animatronics of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza are equipped with facial recognition software, can climb into air ducts, and have some implied sentience ([[spoiler:haunted or not, it's still impressive]]). ** The owners of Freddy's.
*** After somehow catching the luckiest break in the world, managing to stay open and even expand the restaurant, they were ''idiotic'' or ''insane'' enough to ''keep the old animatronics that killed people''. This is actually averted to a ''degree'' with the reveal that [[spoiler:it's a ''prequel''. Phone Guy's call in Night 1 seems to imply that even he is not fully aware of just how dangerous the animatronics are at first (when compared to his first calls in ''[=FNAF 1=]'' where he's fully aware of how dangerous the machines are and properly warns Mike Schmidt about them, in the beginning, he just seems to think them moving around is a nuisance), and it's revealed later that this game takes place before the child murders and the Bite of '87]]. However, the Management is still aware that the machines are moving on their own and pose some sort of threat, so they're probably still pretty stupid.
*** There's also what they did with the new Foxy. After it was destroyed one time too many, they just gave up and made it into a "take apart and put together" activity for the kids. They're letting kids (and very young ones at that, given that Kid's Cove is referred to as the toddler room) play around with parts of an animatronic that are probably fairly heavy and have sharp bits, wires hanging out, and no doubt small parts that could come off. [[SarcasmMode Yeah, that seems like a good idea.]]
*** There's MisappliedPhlebotinum here as well: Freddy Fazbear's has bipedal humanoid face-recognizing robots, capable of walking and crawling through vents, in [[spoiler:'''1987''']]. This would have been ''way'' beyond anything anyone had done in robotics at the time — even the later producers of ASIMO didn't have full humanoid bodies back then. There is absolutely no reason they'd be running a pizza place rather than becoming the IBM of robotics. Don't even get started on the logistics, vision, detection, and feedback necessary to pick up a human and stuff them into a suit, which is far beyond anything robotics could do in 2014.

** Night 3 is when the withered animatronics (sans Foxy, who becomes active the night before) become active and ''quickly'' take the role of the main threat from the main four Toys. If Phone Guy's hesitant talk about rumors in his call is any indication, [[spoiler:the missing children incident is implied to have occurred mere hours before, explaining why the withered animatronics are active]].
** Night 5 is one big shocking episode, especially for those who have played the first game. Phone Guy tells Jeremy that the place is on lockdown in the former night due to police investigations, most likely involving the Toys becoming aggressive around adults with suspicions that their facial recognition technology might have been hacked [[spoiler:and the missing children]]. Phone Guy states to Jeremy that management is attempting to contact the owner of the old restaurant with little success, [[spoiler:but it's not a Freddy Fazbear's Pizza — the old restaurant was called Fredbear's Family Diner]], and that Jeremy may be moved to day shift as the previous role-holder has, uh… left. His check then reveals that [[spoiler:the game takes place in the November of 1987, cementing the game as a prequel]].
** Night 6 has less reveals, but is no less a shocker. Jeremy shows up to work and Phone Guy informs him that [[spoiler:he should have got a memo telling him to stay home because the restaurant is closed. He confirms that a spare yellow suit has been used, and that since he's there, he should just try to complete the shift, as trying to leave could get him killed]]. Jeremy is assigned to the day shift to watch over a birthday party, [[spoiler:the pizzeria's last event before closing]], and make sure the animatronics don't hurt anybody, [[spoiler:giving the huge implication that Jeremy will either witness or fall victim to the Bite of '87. Following this, the restaurant immediately closes and the Toys are scrapped, while the old ones are kept in hopes that the place can [[Videogame/FiveNightsAtFreddys one day reopen]]]].
* WhamLine:
** In the trailer: "Hello? Hellooooo? Well, if you're hearing this, then chances are you've made a very poor career choice." Keep in mind that this is [[spoiler:coming from a guy who was apparently dead]].

** "Uh, we're going to try to contact the original restaurant owner. Uh, I think the name of the place was... [[spoiler:[[ThereIsAnother Fredbear's Family Diner]] or something like that]]." — Night 5 phone call.
** Completing Night 5. [[spoiler:The check's date reads "11-12-''[[StealthPrequel 1987]]''".]]
** The entirely of Night 6's phone call, as it connects back to topics referenced in the first game and suggests that something ''bad'' is about to go down. [[note]]Most important points are bolded.[[/note]]
---> '''Phone Guy:''' Hello hello? Uh… what on earth are you doing there? Uh… Didn't you get the memo? Uh… [[spoiler:'''The place is closed down''', at least for a while. * ShoutOut:
** The words in the fourth promotional picture (''No place to run, and exactly one place to hide.'') is an obvious spin on the lyrics to Martha Reeves and the Vandellas' "Nowhere To Run".
** And on another note, "No place to run" is a name of an album by the band [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Place_to_Run_%28album%29 UFO]].
** Chica, the one most known for her [[NestedMouths inner teeth]], can be seen [[Film/{{Alien}} crawling through the vents.]]
** The Mini-Games are obvious shout-outs to UsefulNotes/Atari2600 (and its competitors') games.
** One of the names for the Custom Night, for activating only Foxy and Mangle, is called [[Music/RobZombie Foxy Foxy]].
** And speaking of Foxy, the theory that he was inspired by Music/{{Sweet}}'s "Fox on the Run" is only strengthened by Mangle — it has a pretty face, but the rest of it is out of place; it looked all right befoooooore…
** The "Something borrowed… Something new…" teaser might be a reference to the [[Creator/{{TLC}} TLC]] TV Series of the same name.

** Think that's bad enough? Golden Freddy joins the fun on Night 6 — probably worse than all of the other animatronics ''combined'' — and bringing the number of enemies, quite literally, [[UpToEleven up to]] [[IncrediblyLamePun eleven]]. In fact, he makes trying to deal with Foxy ''extremely'' dangerous, because your way of normally warding him off (flashing the light at him over and over a bit) is exactly what ''will'' cause Golden Freddy to kill you if he decides to show in the hallway, and he's quite a bit less easy to see without focusing. As a result, dealing with Foxy no longer becomes muscle memory, and if you get too careful with the flashlight, Foxy may not reset properly and kill you instead. Oh, and you really cannot spare too much extra time on caution, because of the now insane rate of time diminishing on the music box…

** The old animatronics have been scrapped and left in a state of disrepair, replaced by the new ones. Boy oh boy, does it show. Take for prime example Bonnie, ''who comes after you '''with his freaking face ripped off!''''' You'll be so freaked out you probably won't even notice that he's also missing his entire left arm, as well as the suit of his remaining hand and — if you catch him in the Parts and Service area or one of the party rooms — a foot.
