I feel Alternate Timeline is a more accurate trope as all the routes can be looked at this way and Shinya Takahashi and Nintendo of America’s Twitter outright stated it’s set in the same universe. Meaning it’s no less alternate than any potential route in the original game.

In fact Nintendo of America’s Twitter account literally says “Prepare for a different story set in the **same** universe as Fire Emblem: Three Houses” this game is just another potential route. ** While it avoids outright showing or saying it, the trailer more or less shows that Jeralt dies, as Sothis' narration and mention of revenge is timed to a moment of Jeralt getting up from some kind of rainy location.
