In all such cases, the game shows you a brief NonStandardGameOver, then immediately rewinds to shortly before the choice.

Added to Lightning Bruiser

Added DiffLines:

** While both Bird and Amphibian fall into this category easily, numbers do indicate the Bird being much faster, and it indeed can clear enormous distance in seconds with the best upgrades. However, what gives the Amphibian an edge over the Bird is that the Bird is required to be FLYING in order to hit their top speed. On foot, they were very slow and easy targets, which can be trouble if knocked out of the sky. The Amphibian has no such limitation and is inherently fast on foot and with its incredible jump height with the right evolutions, even with heavy armor.

Added Lightning Bruiser

Added DiffLines:

* LightningBruiser: Depending on the specific evolutions you choose, the Amphibian is the easiest to fall into this category, having lower final HP even with some of the best evolutions (unless the player chooses the Edosaurus Dorsal Fin which specifically increases HP) compared to most other final evolutions of other chapters, but a lighting fast speed well suited for fast attacks with either bite, slam, or horn. The Bird evolution is the only other one to come close, but the Amphibian is capable of beating it out on speed even while having armored hide. In many ways, this is necessary to defeat Queen Bee.

The game is actually a sequel to/sort-of remake of ''46 Okunen Monogatari: The Shinkaron'' ("The Tale of 46 Hundred Million Years: The Theory of Evolution") an obscure [[NoExportForYou Japan-only]] UsefulNotes/PC98 EasternRPG based on the same premise. A FanTranslation came out in 2017, combining its title with the SNES game's English title to form ''E.V.O.: Theory of Evolution''.
