It added Turbo mode and Legendary Dark Knight difficulty (which were in the original PC release, but appeared here on console for the first time) and also added Vergil, Lady, and Trish as playable characters. Other features include [[AndYourRewardIsClothes unlockable alternate costumes]] (which were absent in the vanilla version), achievements/trophies, a revamped save system, and some graphical tweaks. Notably, it also came out nearly ''seven years'' after the original, whereas ''3''[='=]s Special Edition only took one year, and [[DuelingGames roughly around the same time, a similar "Definitive Edition" arrived for the reboot]], ''VideoGame/DMCDevilMayCry''.

* SenseImpairedMonster: Blitz demons are blind, and their [[MonsterCompendium Enemy File]] description explicitly states that they have to rely on their other senses to track their prey's movements. However, this also means they're prone to [[HelpfulMook attacking their fellow demons]], indicating their difficulty in distinguishing friend from foe.

* SidetrackBonus: The [[TheLostWoods "Lost Woods"]] area is a series of crossroads where you need to [[OneOfTheseDoorsIsNotLikeTheOther figure out the correct path]] using light and shadows as your guide. Going into the wrong path however takes you to the "Hidden Pit" where you are forced to fight a group of enemies, though you'll also find a Blue Orb Fragment there for your efforts.

* PreviouslyOn: Beating the game unlocks a "History of DMC" video that briefly recaps the previous three games, though they are arranged in release order; there's only a little hint that the series has an AnachronicOrder or that ''Devil May Cry 3'' is a {{prequel}}. In between the plot summaries, there are also short bios for the major characters of each game.

Found a more specific trope. Moving.

** This game introduced the "Get More Orbs" skill in the franchise, but it acts like a quality-of-life feature anyway. It greatly expands the scope of your orb acquisition range, allowing you to collect orbs from afar faster than usual.

** In Mission 11, there's a gate that can only be opened by [[TwoKeyedLock activating its pressure plates on both sides at once]]. There's a Scarecrow demon on the other side, so Nero can just pull it to the pressure plate and help him open the gate.

* HelpfulMook:
** [[ActionBomb Self-detonating demons]] such as the Blitz also deal massive damage to their fellow demons when they explode. They tend to "accidentally" help you clear out a room of enemies provided they are closely-packed with the rest. Furthermore, the Blitz is a MiniBoss type of a demon {{Mook}} that's difficult to deal with. However, it's blind and thus can accidentally hurt its fellow demons whenever it strikes or {{Teleport Spam}}s.
** Thanks to the game's MeleeATrois mechanics, the artificial demons created by Agnus (Angelos, Gladii and Basilisks) will fight the other demons and vice versa, which can be helpful for the player as the demons tend to switch their aggro. In normal circumstances, this happens rarely (such as in Mission 17, where two Alto Angelos confront a Faust), but it's in full force in the Legendary Dark Knight mode where [[MonstersEverywhere dozens of enemies spawn at once]].
** In the Bloody Palace mode, the Chimera Seeds are guaranteed to drop Green Orbs that restore the player character's vitality.
