The first game, simply titled ''Detective Grimoire'', was released as an online flash game in 2007. In it, Grimoire goes to the Coils & Co. Fairground to find out who murdered Hugh Everton, an elderly employee at the amusement park.

A sequel, ''Detective Grimoire: Secret of the Swamp'', was released on UsefulNotes/{{Steam}} in 2014. In this game, Grimoire is assigned to a tourist attraction in a remote swamp, to solve the murder of Richard Remmington, the owner of the attraction. The murder was believed to have been committed by Boggy, a legendary beast who supposedly lives in the swamp...

* DenserAndWackier: Downplayed. The first game was a fairly realistic murder mystery albeit with some comedy thrown in. In here, not only is there a more comedic edge but the murder suspect ''this time'' is a cartoon mascot (though in fairness, Grimoire is clearly not buying it) [[spoiler: and it turns out that "Boggy" is in fact a real creature who lives in the swamp]].
* LighterAndSofter: Downplayed. As stated before, there's a bit more comedy thrown in, including the idea that a cartoonish swamp creature may have done a man in. [[spoiler: Also, the culprit in this game only intended to scare Remington into shutting down the swamp and only attacked after he was shot it. Nothing at all like the culprit in the first game who planned to kill from the get go.]]

* WhereTheHellIsSpringfield: The events of the two games take place either in Britain or in the US. Officer James wears a British uniform and talks in an English dialect, and the price signs of the first game's fair all carry '£' symbols. Yet, Grimoire speaks in a ([[OohMeAccentsSlipping fake]]) American accent in the second game, as does half of the cast. It helps that the game was made in England.

''Detective Grimoire'' is a game about the titular detective, solving the mystery of a murdered janitor at a circus.

There's a sequel coming soon on the IPhone, about a murder at a swamp.

* UsefulNotes/BritishCoppers: Officer James, and he also is the only cop around most of the time. [[CaptainObvious The game is probably set in the UK.]]
* DeadPanSnarker: Grimoire himself, to [[PhoenixWright Phoenix-worthy levels]]. Also Officer James, to a certain extent. And about anyone will gain this trait once they start mentioning [[RunningGag Grimoire's hat]].
* {{Expy}}: The main character looks like [[PhoenixWright Gumshoe]], the developers even note that they explicitly based Grimoire after him.
* KilledOffForReal: The murder victims, naturally.
* MonsterClown: The game drops some pretty broad hints that the clown was the murderer. [[spoiler:He wasn't.]]
* NiceHat: A RunningGag is pointing out the aversion of the detective having a nice hat. He apparently has one in the sequel, before shortly losing the hat.
* RunningGag: The hat, whether absent or not.
** "Your moustache is troubling me. That thing seems to be longer every time I see you."
* StealthHiBye: The girl seems to vanish without a trace in both games.
