''Bomberman 64'' is the first game in the ''VideoGame/{{Bomberman}}'' franchise for the UsefulNotes/{{Nintendo 64}}, released in 1997. It was followed in 1998 by ''VideoGame/BombermanHero'', then had a more direct sequel in 1999 with ''VideoGame/Bomberman64TheSecondAttack''.

* SongParody: One of the original US commercials for the game featured a "Bomberman" parody of "Franchise/SpiderMan". It's the page quote for the main VideoGame/{{Bomberman}} article.

* QuirkyMinibossSquad: Altair's team of space pirates who face off with Bomberman, Regulus, Orion, and Artemis. All three have different abilities and personalities: Artemis is a DarkActionGirl and TheBrute, Orion is a BarrierWarrior and TheSmartGuy (the second time he fights Bomberman it's in a GiantMecha), and Regulus is TheDragon and an AntiVillain [[spoiler:who sides with Bomberman after Sirius kills his master]].

* DarkChick: Artemis is the only female in the four-person bad guy team, but just as lethal as her compatriots.

* FiveManBand: Altair and his Masker Trio ([[MyFriendsAndZoidberg plus Vega]]) make up a villainous equivalent to this dynamic:

Talking to Sirius in a regular level after the reveal causes "him" to [[YouHaveNoChanceToSurvive goad Bomberman into giving up]] instead of giving advice like before, and the dialogue in Sirius' Green Garden boss fight is changed to show that this isn't the real Sirius, either.]]

* FakeDifficulty: Orion is responsible for a KaizoTrap, and White Glacier 1 on Hard Mode has an almost impossibly strict time limit, compounded by winds that are capable of blowing you off a ledge. If that happens, you can pretty much kiss that Gold Card for the target time goodbye.

* MagicalClown: The penultimate boss of the game, Spellmaster, is a clown with a vast arsenal of magical spells to choose from. Because of this, he's perhaps the most difficult boss in the game due to being so unpredictable.

* EarlyBirdBoss: [[InvertedTrope Inverted]]; Sirius will give the player remote bombs for each of the large bosses [[spoiler:except the very last one in TheVeryDefinitelyFinalDungeon]]. By this point, [[spoiler:Sirius had revealed himself as EvilAllAlong, and isn't willing to help Bomberman any longer]].

A strange fortress descends upon Planet Bomber and begins attacking the inhabitants of Bomber Town. Attached to the fortress are four pieces of other planets that have been conquered by BigBad Altair and his Masker Trio. Bomberman, joined by strange new ally, Sirius, must disconnect the four pieces from the fortress so that he can reach it and defeat this new threat to Planet Bomber.
