* SequelDifficultyDrop: ''Zero II'' is arguably more challenging than the previous game, however, the requirement for the True Ending is much easier in ''Zero II''; in the previous title every single addition for SOPHIA-III was necessary in order to obtain the True Ending, and the game was designed in a way that getting all of those pretty amounted to playing the game to 100% exploration, in ''Zero II'' all you need is to complete the rather simple side-quests presented by all three fellow Metal Attackers to earn 3 items needed by the end of the game, a few areas and upgrades not necessary to complete the aforementioned quests can be completely skipped and the True Ending can still be achieved.
* SequelDifficultySpike: ''Zero II'' pulls even fewer punches than its predecessor. Enemies are plentiful and aggressive, the level design is more dynamic, and bosses are trickier and more strategic.

* DifficultySpike: Divido is when the game really stops playing around. The planet is divided in two sections and is full of dimensional rifts that will kill you if you so as much scratch it and enemies are always positioned in ways that will force you to watch your footing while fighting them. The top-down segments are not easier having some of the trickiest segments with said rifts also being a constant threat.

** This is handwaved in a similar fashion for Jason's Blaster Rifle; it had no "safety" features to lower its power output and making use of its full power at all times had worn out it to the point Jason and Eve had to rebuild and remodel it into the Gaia Blaster. It is also the reason why the most powerful weapons will lose their power if used too liberally.

* ConservationOfCompetence: Most MA Pilots and their Support Droids introduced here have more or less this dynamic, although is less about one being dumb and the other smart:
** Gonbei is impulsive and tends to fight first and ask questions later. Tae on the other hand is calmer and doesn't jump to conclusions.
** Kanna is eccentric and has a very quirky personality to say the least. Kenwood on the other hand is calm and unfailingly polite who also keeps Kanna's weirdness in check. Mostly.
** Stein is a very proficient mechanic and can easily repair ATOM, however he is hopeless with tech and the operating systems of the Metal Attackers. Tesset on the other hand is able to handle that.

** If you don't get the hint that Blast Counter an important mechanic, the duel against Gonbei in Montoj will force it on you. Gonbei spends most of the battle hiding or shielding himself and the only way to reliably deal damage to him is by stunning him with a Blast Counter.

** Even earlier you have the option to fight Mine Mite. Fighting it without Blast Counter is a tedious chore of waiting for it to stop at the right spot to get a few shots in... Eve herself suggests using Blast Counter in order to make it vulnerable and you ''really'' should take her advice.
