Feels more like a YMMV entry what with the complaining. The last sentence in particular framing a subjective opinion as if everyone holds it.

* PlotTumor: Everything Agrippa is, and the errands he has Daniel running around to accomplish, is this. It derails the original story, and subverts [[MotiveDecay Daniel seeking revenge upon Alexander's corruption and crimes]]. It also robs from the challenge as doing these tasks [[MercyMode gives players many opportunities to restore sanity]]. Little wonder many gamers do not consider the GoldenEnding to be the [[CuttingOffTheBranches Canon Ending]].

* TheComputerIsALyingBastard: The hint you get when seeing a monster for the first time states that looking at them for too long causes you to "eventually be seen." This was confirmed by the lead developer to be an outright lie, with the intention of scaring the player into avoiding looking at enemies.
** This mechanic does in fact exist in ''VideoGame/{{Penumbra}}''.

** The "Sanity Potion", [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin which restores the player's sanity by one level]], similar to how Laudanum restores health. It isn't used anywhere in the main game, but is still fully functional and can be placed into maps via the level editor. Was likely not used because it either would have made the game too easy; wouldn't have been terribly useful, since sanity is passively replenished whenever you solve a puzzle; the devs thought it didn't fit the setting, as drugs for treating mental illness were extremely primitive and largely ineffective in the Victorian era; or [[ReedRichardsIsUseless didn't want to trivialise it by having a potion that can just make people more sane with the click of a button]].
** The "Large Oil Potion", which provides twice as much oil for your lantern as a regular bottle of oil. Doesn't show up anywhere in the game (save for one of the ending cinematics), but is fully functional and can be placed into maps with the level editor.
** A kind of currency called "thalers", which were meant to be used for opening special treasure chests. Models for bags of 10, 25, and 50 thalers still exist in the game files, but are completely useless and don't show up in the inventory menu when picked up. A few custom stories do use them, though.

Added Bait & Switch

Added DiffLines:

* BaitAndSwitch: Of sorts, but done in a panic-inducing manner. In the final leg of the sewers, you find your path is blocked by a Brute standing guard at the hall you need to go down. Fortunately, the area is circular and you can simply get him to come investigate a noise when you make noise in one direction or the other. No matter how far you manage to lure it away, it'll suddenly be right behind you instead of distracted once you go down the hall, and your only hope is to book it to the ladder and start climbing before it gets you.
