All levels are chaotic, deeply surreal mazes that look as if designed by a joint effort between Creator/SalvadorDali and Creator/MCEscher, both on copious amounts of drugs. The paths in the early parts of the void assemble themselves as you move and layouts are deliberately disorienting, with lights that conceal more than illuminate and animated textures that give the illusion of movement where there is none. A couple of places seem to give views into outer space. On top of that, the void itself and everything within it is MadeOfEvil.

** The final boss's area plays this the straightest, containing wind that carries you all the way to the edge of its arena along a straight path. The boss arenas in the Astral Equinox and the Forges start empty corridors with those levels' secret areas and some weapons and ammo.
** The secret level in ''The Black Labyrinth'' leads you into a long sloping corridor that doubles back on itself vertically, causing you to slide half the distance to its BossRoom.

* DimensionalCutter: The DLC-exclusive [[SinisterScythe Voidsplitter]] becomes one of these in Soul Mode, opening a rift into the void with a swing and just as quickly banishing any enemies in that direction into it. There's an achievement for taking out ten enemies at once this way.

An Axe To Grind is no longer a trope

* AnAxeToGrind: Your starting weapon is a big double-edged axe called the Axe of the Black Labyrinth. Soul Mode makes its blades spin to shred enemies, not unlike the titular weapon in ''VideoGame/{{Painkiller}}''. Unlike most melee weapons in [=FPSes=] of this sort, which are last resort weapons that you're forced to use when you run out of ammo, this weapon is quite useful. A single blow from this axe is more powerful than most of your early ranged weapons, and it has the ability to pull enemies towards you at close range. It's more than capable of dealing with most of the basic mooks you fight early in each chapter.
