The game takes heavy inspiration from ''VideoGame/ImOnObservationDuty'' and follows similar mechanics: you must survive from 12 A.M. to 6 A.M. while observing some cameras and reporting any anomaly you spot to get rid of it.

----
!''Alternate Watch'' contains examples of:
* BodyHorror: The Flawed Alternates are this, being Alternates that haven't quite succeeded at copying their target. Notable examples in-game are a faceless woman and a completely deformed woman.
* {{Gaslighting}}: Much like in the game where it takes inspiration from, most of the anomalies are like this, with objects changing, moving or duplicating.
* GovernmentAgencyOfFiction: The United States Department of Temporal Phenomena.
* HumanoidAbomination: Every Alternate, in one way or the other, always looks wrong and monstrous despite their humanoid appearance. This is especially true for Pure Forms, who are humanoid shadows.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: The Alternates can take about any form they wish, staying in their pure shadowy form or taking the appearance of a human or - in the Mimics' case - [[{{Objectshifting}} objects]].
