The way to tell the difference is that people with inappropriate affect generally don't know or care they ''shouldn't'' laugh, while someone laughing out of disbelief will usually stop when the truth of what happened sinks in, or someone laughing at a Website/{{Darwin Award|s}}-worthy fate will acknowledge that they probably shouldn't be laughing but they are.
