I'm just your average post-teenage cynic/misanthrope with a heart of either gold or pure darkness (I haven't really made up my mind about which, but I'll let you know when I do). I consider my personality to be to be comparable to that of a hypothetical lovechild of Kyon and Osaka. Make of this what you will. Alternately, I could be described as a neurotically skeptical insomniac pragmatic empiricist virgin S&M freak. As with above, I leave is as an exercise to the reader to interpretate this statement. I am presently engaged in an ongoing experiment to see if I can become the worlds most subtle attention slut: an endeavor that is being met with mixed results.

I am an atheist (but not the lame Humanist kind), a meta-ethical emotivist, an epistemological naturalist, an emergentist-anarchist in the Nockian-Rothbardian tradition of free-market agorism and a radical in the original sense of the word (i.e. one who wishes to strike at the very root of an issue). My political ideology incorporates ideas from both the far left and the far right: a fact which when combined with my natural contrariness gives raise to the perception that I support whichever side the observer doesn't; I have given up trying to break people of this belief.

At any given moment, I will generally have multiple ideas for stories wondering around in my head, never really managing to materializing. Since I'll probably never actually write them down, I might as well describe them here (this will likely be the closest any of them will come to seeing the light of day).
* Laughter From Darkness: Guy gets caught in the middle of a secret war between rival conspiracies. Ultimately, .
* Untitled Fantasy Series: Dark comedy following a group of confused twenty-somethings wondering around a world that can't seem to make up it's mind as to whether is subverting or double subverting the standard fantasy setting, argue about philosophy, and generally try to work out where along the SlidingScaleOfIdealismVersusCynicism things really are. Definitely not an angsty David Hume/Friedrich Nietzsche slashfic. I promise.
* Untitled comedy[=/=]MindScrew non-novel: A fundamentalist minister convinces his congregation to commit mass suicide so that they can proselytize Hell. HilarityEnsues.
* In The Shadows [tentative title]: Urban fantasy setting that I've actually put quite a lot of thought into fleshing out. Unfortunately, I have no idea what to do with it.

I attend college in Northern California, and do not get nearly enough sleep. If you're really bored, you might consider checking out my tumblr, in which I write about science, language, economics, ethics, epistemology and other topics that you probably don't care about. It may be found here. Alternately, you can check out my twitter, which is here. If you have any questions that you would like answered, may ask them at my formspring here, and I will try to answer them in as informative/enlightening/entertaining manner as possible (they don't need to be relevant to me).

I am responsible for launching the main pages for Cryptonomicon, Buckethead, FamilyMan and TalesOfTheOtori, and the character sheet for Characters/BlackLagoon, as well as innumerable edits to other articles. I am also a proud member of FoRKS, and think that many editors take this wiki far too seriously.

!!My life includes examples of:
* AskAStupidQuestion: Practically a family tradition.
* Berserk Buttons
** Censorship of any form -- Ideas, and the words to express them, are the last sacred thing that I have left; hence, I consider any restriction upon the free flow of information to be nothing short of reprehensible.
** ComplainingAboutShowsYouDontLike -- If you don't like something, then don't watch it. The internet has enough negativity without you adding your two cents; Please let people make up their minds for themselves.
** Fan Haters[=/=]Hatedoms -- I believe that Hate is the most powerful creative force in the universe; Hate is what makes the world go-round. The idea that people might waste their hate on something as petty as a work of fiction and its fans is abhorrent to me.
** HollywoodCalifornia -- Goddamn it, folks. Not everyone in California acts like that.
** ItsPopularNowItSucks -- Think for yourselves, people. Whether or not other people like something is irrelevant to whether or not you will like something; either way, kindly save your opinion for when it is asked for. This sentiment also applies to HypeAversion.
** People Who Use The Term "MarySue" -- Because the phrase is so ill-defined and self-contradictory that it might as well refer to any character that the speaker does not like.
** Nietzsche Wannabes -- seriously, go read Nietzsche's books; they don't say what you think they say.
** People who delete entries without any explanation -- is it really that hard to write a sentence or two explaining why an example doesn't fit, and where, if anywhere, it might belong? This annoys me to such an extent that when I see an entry deleted without adequate explanation, I often find myself compelled to re-add it until such time as a valid explanation is made for why it was deleted in the first place.
*** Conversely, I also find it rather annoying when people feel the need to write out an entire paragraph to justify simple grammatical corrections. It's a waste of my time and theirs.
** People who comb through wiki pages replacing strong language with "less offensive alternatives." Okay, admittedly, there is nothing inherently funny or witty about the words "fuck" or "shit", but the same is also true of any of the alternatives. So if you feel like re-writing something to make it funnier/clearer/more concise, then feel free to do so. But merely replacing "shit" with "crap" accomplishes nothing and is a waste of both time and effort.
** People who confuse capitalism with corporatism. The former is the economic system whereby the means of production are directed solely by the will of the consumers in accordance with the laws of supply and demand; the latter is when government, while still paying lip service to the consumers, intervenes in the economy in such a way as to force suppliers to consolidate into easily manageable cartels, thus forcing industry into varying levels of de facto nationalization. They are utterly different. The US is the latter, by the way.
* BrilliantButLazy -- Well, more like Brilliant But With Crippling Perfectionism And Chronically Low Expectations Of Efficacy Which Most Casual Observers Mistake For Laziness. Is there a trope for that?
* CasaLaneParenting -- How I was raised.
* CatchPhrase -- "Wonderful" (especially when things are not wonderful). Also: "Have fun with that."
* ChaoticGood / ChaoticNeutral -- The former on good days, the latter on bad ones, or when spending time with my NeutralEvil best friend.
** I also have some more neutralish tendencies that surface occasionally; really, I'm right at the intersection of ChaoticGood, ChaoticNeutral, NeutralGood and TrueNeutral.
* CharacterFilibuster -- I do this fairly often. This is largely a result of spending large amounts of time staring off into space organizing my ideas into coherent arguments.
* ChasteHero -- On reflection, I probably could have gotten laid at a number of different junctions; if only I could spend less time reflecting and more time acting....
* TheChessmaster.
* CloudCuckoolander -- As can be deduced from my contributions to the Musings page.
* ClusterFBomb -- I tend to do this a lot. I even wrote an essay about how profanity is good (read it here). Interestingly enough, I never used to swear at all until I got to High School. That was just the way I was raised. So the lesson is: if you don't want your children to become complete potty-mouths, let them get away with the occasional "fuck" or "shit" now and then.
* CreepyMonotone --I do this whenever I'm bored/feel like freaking people out.
* CrowningMomentOfAwesome -- Convincing my tenth grade English teacher to give my full credit after turning in a blank piece of paper.
* TheDaria -- A rare male version.
* DarkIsNotEvil -- I prefer Night's comforting silence to Day's mind-numbing cacophony.
* DeadpanSnarker.
* DeathGlare -- Has reached memetic amongst my circle of friends. The ScaryShinyGlasses help.
* DemocracyIsBad -- I posted the following note to my Facebook account on Election Day '08:
-->So, election day has come and passed, the next savior of all man kind has been anointed, and his vile, satanic majesty has been thwarted once again. And so with all this messy business of thinking out of the way, we are free to get down to the real reason we all voted: so we can have an excuse to party.
-->But should we? We Americans are cheerful to a fault, and will seize upon any opportunity to celebrate, but should we really? My previous sarcasm aside, the two candidates aren't really that different. Sure, there are little things (like whether the victims of our upcoming nuclear assault will be cursing us unto the tenth generation in Farsi or Urdu) but over all, their policies are remarkably similar. Both support the wholesale rape of our economy (one through over-regulation and taxation and the other through overuse of fiat currency), and both support further intervention in the middle east (see my above comment about Farsi versus Urdu). So, what are we really celebrating? All that happened was that one asshole was victorious over another, slightly larger asshole. Sure, the lesser of two evils may have won, but he's still evil. If anything, we should be bemoaning the fact that our system of government is set up in such a way as to force us to choose between evils. And that's why we should not be celebrating. Because our entire democracy is based on false advertising (if you don't believe me, go read Federalists 10 and then try to reconcile it with what you see going on). I'm not going to get into whether Democracy itself is a necessary or unnecessary evil, but either way, it's still evil. So if you do vote, you shouldn't be proud of it, and you definitely shouldn't parade around with an "I Voted" sticker feeling superior to those ignorant fools who didn't. Instead, you should wash your hands as soon as you get home.
* Discontinuity -- my own personal canon:
** CodeGeass ends after the 21st episode of the second season. Lelouch becomes emperor, but abdicate in favor of Nunnally. He then fakes his own death, marries Kallen, and the two of them live happily ever after. C.C. occasionally shows up for mad lesbian sex with Kallen, but apart from that, they live normal lives. The end. Lelouch does not die; Nunnaly does not, nor will she ever, nuke anything, and don't believe anyone who tells you differently. They are lying.
*** There is a theory making the rounds on the Internet that the aforementioned lie was inspired by a novel called God-Emperor of Dune. The only problem with said theory is that while Frank Herbert was planning on using that title for one of his upcoming works, he died of a stroke before he got around to writing it (See Below).
** At the end of the second season of FullMetalPanic, Sgt. Maj. Mao comes to in the infirmary of the De Danaan, and realizes that the proceeding season was merely a drug-induced hallucination caused by all the pain killers she was on after her fight with Gauron in the first season.
** Both Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hollows are fabrications.
** What is this Metallica St. Anger thing you keep talking about?
** BlackSabbath ceased to exist after Ozzy left the band.
** IronMaiden went on hiatus from '94-'99 while Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith focused on their side-projects, and Steve Harris went through a painful divorce. Dickinson and Smith did not leave the band, and Harris did not write some of the worst material of his career.
** Messiah was the last Dune book.
** Lost Daniel Faraday is just hiding. Same goes for Charlie Pace.
** There was no fifth season of HouseMD. And I'm still not entirely convinced that the fourth season wasn't AllJustADream either.
** Hannibal Lector has never been played by anyone other than Anthony Hopkins; ditto for Clarice Starling->Jody Foster.
** Seasons Four and Six of BuffyTheVampireSlayer never happened. Except the musical episode. That one did happen.
** Terminator Raise Of The Machines and Terminator Salvation are all lies. Chronicles ftw.
** RealLife: Spring Semester '09 never happened.
* DoingItForTheArt: My life. Sort of.
** To clarify, if I cared about fame or money or social acceptance, I probably would have slit my wrists by now.
* DysfunctionalFamily.
* Emotionless Boy -- Was one of these all the way through to the start of HighSchool, during which I morphed into a male Daria. Still regress, occasionally.
* EntryPimp -- I'm responsible for 95% of all entries related to TalesOfTheOtori, an awesome series that no one other than me has read. Seriously, go read it. It has Ninja.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble -- Was in one of these in HighSchool; I was Melancholic, by the way.
* DitzyGenius -- I have an encyclopedic knowledge of numerous obscure topics, but -- as I recently discovered -- do not know how to do my own laundry.
** Another interesting example. I am sitting in the library of my college, half an hour before I am schedualed to take a final exam in First Semester Philosophy. I feel very confident in my knowledge of the subject, but have time to kill, so I decide to get a head start on next semester's reading. I proceed to spend the next few hours devouring the textbook, reading parts multiple times, processing things, and eventually building up a healthy head start on the course. Which I'm taking next semester. As in, the one that starts after I take the final exam for the couse I'm taking this semester. As in, the test that I'm supposed to be taking now, and that the teacher doesn't let you make up. Brilliant move.
* GoshDangItToHeck -- My mother actually talks like this.
* HardOnSoftScience -- Averted. Alas, for I have been seduced by the siren call of the social scientist and trained in their dark arts hottip:*:I'm an econ major.
* HatesBeingTouched -- Even being touched by someone I know and consider to be a friend makes me mildly uncomfortably; being touched unexpectedly by a stranger will usually prompt a violent reaction. Off the top of my head, I can think of exactly four people by whom I am comfortable being touched.
* TheHedonist -- In theory. In practice, I end up being more of a prude than anything else.
* HopelessSuitor -- I have a habit of falling madly in love with any intelligent, moderately attractive girl that I happen to encounter. This has never ended well for me.
* HumansAreBastards -- But in a good way.
* IgnoredEpiphany -- At least once every few months, I will make up my mind to stop being so apathetic and actually do something with my life. It has yet to take.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold -- People tell me that I alternate between one of the nicest persons they have ever met and an insensitive prick with little or no warning; I am mostly unaware of this transition.
* Kuudere.
* TheLancer -- I fill this role to my best friend, mainly by being the one to call him out on his various assholeries.
* LargeHam -- I'm typically highly reserved, but when I do cut loose, I don't do things by half-measures.
* LoveAtFirstSight -- Though, in my case, it was more like Love At Only Sight.
* MetaGuy.
* MisaimedFandom -- I would rather be hated for who I am than loved over a misunderstanding. Hence, I live in constant fear of this.
* MindScrew -- One of my favorite pastimes. Nothing is more fun than messing with people's minds.
* MoodSwinger -- From personable and charismatic to abrasive and confrontational to withdrawn and introspective.
* MrExposition -- "I am an endless barrel of exposition."
* NightmareFetishist -- Things that most people find incredibly disturbing I find to be awesome. This is most likely related to...
* NightmareRetardant -- I have never in my life had a nightmare (or at least, never one that I remember upon waking). My dreams are often surreal, and typically don't make a lot of sense during waking life, but they are never frightening. I am, however, a world-class paranoiac; this is in keeping with my belief that it is the dull, mundane threats that are the most dangerous.
* ObfuscatingStupidity -- While I have had some genuinely ditzy moments, I'm not nearly as innocent and naive as I pretend to be; also, I'm a much better lier than I lead people to believe.
* OccidentalOtaku.
* OTPs --Firefly Simon/Kaylee, Naruto Shikamaru/Temari, Bleach Kisuke/Yoruichi, Rock/Revy, Roy/Riza/Olivia, Kyon/Mikuru/Yuki.
* PerverseSexualLust -- Primarily for Firefly River Tam and Mikuru Asahina; also a few more, but mainly just River and Mikuru.
* PsychoticSmirk -- I have two primary facial expressions: total indifference and this.
* Scotireland -- My family is originally from Scotland, but somehow, after 200+ years in America, we've managed to acquire an Irish surname.
* SeriousBusiness -- I treat everything towards which I am not completly apathetic as this.
* Shipping -- I support the following ships:
** ASongOfIceAndFire: Jon/Dany, Jaime/Brienne, Joffery/Poison.
** AvatarTheLastAirbender: Mai/Zuko, Sokka/Suki, Toph/Katara, Toph/Aang, Aang/Katara, Azula/Ty Lee, Azula/Sokka (noncon), Azula/Suki (noncon).
** AzumangaDaioh: Osaka/Yomi, Nyamo/Yukari.
** Bakemonogatari: Koyomi/Senjogahara
** BlackLagoon: Rock/Revy, Benny/Jane, Balalaika/Chang, Balalaika/Rock (noncon), Balalaika/Revy (noncon).
** Bleach: Kisuke/Yoruichi, Ishida/Orihime, Ichigo/Rukia, Renji/Hinamori.
** CodeGeass: Lelouch/Kallen, Kallen/C.C., Suzaku/Euphemia, Nina/Table-kun.
** Dollhouse: Topher/Adelle, Echo/Sierra.
** Firefly: Simon/Kaylee, Mal/Inara.
** FullMetalAlchemist: Roy/Riza, Roy/Olivia, Olivia/Riza, Ed/Winry.
** FullMetalPanic: Souske/Tessa, Kurz/Mao.
** HarryPotter: Harry/Luna, Ron/Hermione.
** HomeStuck: John/Rose, Karkat/Terezi, Terezi/Vriska, Sollux/Aradia.
** Lost: Sawyer/Juliet, Desmond/Penny.
** LuckyStar: Yutaka/Minami.
** Megatokyo: Piro/Kimiko, Largo/Erika, Ping/Junko.
** Meta: [=TVTropes=]/TheOtherWiki
** minus: minus/the Green-haired Girl.
** Naruto: Shikamaru/Temari, Naruto/Hinata, Sakura/Ino, Ino/Everyone.
** TheSarahConnorChronicles: John/Cameron.
** SomethingPositive: Davan/Vanessa/Pee-Jee
** SuzumiyaHaruhiNoYuutsu: Kyon/Mikuru, Kyon/Yuki, Yuki/Mikuru.
** VampireTheMasqueradeBloodlines: Malkavian (either gender)/Tourette.
* ShrinkingViolet -- I slip in and out of this depending on my mood. Ironically, whenever I mention this tendency to my friends, they always deny it, as they've never noticed me when I do it.
* SlidingScaleOfIdealismVersusCynicism -- I'm so far to the cynical side that I come back around as idealistic. Alternately, I'm so far to the idealistic side I come back around as cynical. strike:Possibly Probably both.
* SophisticatedAsHell.
* SpoilerHound -- I actively seek out spoilers before getting into a new work; that way I know whether it will be worth my time.
* StepfordSmiler -- Don't let by quiet, unassuming behavior fool you; beneath my gentle smile, I'm probably one of the most profoundly neurotic individuals you are ever likely to meet.
* StoicSpectacles -- When I remember to wear them, that is; my eyesight is okay without them, I just can't read far off signs.
* TheStraightMan -- The fact that I, of all people, fill this role in my nakama should be very telling as to how unusual my friends are.
* StupidGood / ChaoticStupid -- My mother and father, respectively.
* ThirdPersonPerson -- I do this quite a lot on this wiki, and occasionally in real life. I made a point of not doing it on this page, however.
* TwoferTokenMinority -- I'm a Sino-Celtic Anarcho-Atheist Transhumanist. Beat that!
* UnreliableNarrator -- I estimate that anywhere from 20-40% of the things that I say or write are actually complete bullshit. And when I say this, I do not meant that if you took 100 claims that I have made, 20-40 would be false. I mean that each one would only be 60-80 percent true. This statement is not exempt.
* YuriFanboy / ShipperOnDeck -- I ship several of my female friends. Ironically, my mother actually ships me with one of said female friends.

Upon further reflection, I have realized that making this page was in fact nothing more than one monumental act of intellectual masturbation. However, that's my favorite kind of masturbation, so I think I'll keep it anyway.

The remainder of this page is devoted to honoring quotations that once adorned the very top of this page, but have since been retired to a venerable position at the end.

->Reason and experience, I repeat, are all that determine our true beliefs. So I never greatly cared that people should think my way, or tried much to get them to do so; I am not sure enough that my opinions are right, and even if they were, a second-hand opinion is a poor possession. I should be glad if they thought at all — that is, if their general turn, were a little more for disinterested thinking, and a little less for impetuous action motivated by mere unconsidered prepossession. According to my observations (for which I claim nothing but that they are all I have to go by) inaction is better than wrong action or premature right action, and effective right action can only follow right thinking. [...] Great and salutary social transformations, such as in the end do not cost more than they come to, are not effected by political shifts, by movements, by programs and platforms, least of all by violent revolutions, but by sound and disinterested thinking. The believers in action are numerous, their gospel is widely preached, they have many followers. Perhaps among those who will see what I have here written, there are two or three who will agree with me that the believers in action do not need us — indeed, that if we joined them, we should be rather a dead weight for them to carry.We need only remark that our place and function in it are not apparent, and then proceed on our own way, first with the more obscure and extremely difficult work of clearing and illuminating our own minds, and second, with what occasional help we may offer to others whose faith, like our own, is set more on the regenerative power of thought than on the uncertain achievements of premature action.

* Berserk Buttons
* CasaLaneParenting -- How I was raised.
* CatchPhrase -- "Wonderful" (especially when things are not wonderful). Also: "Have fun with that."
* ChaoticGood / ChaoticNeutral -- The former on good days, the latter on bad ones, or when spending time with my NeutralEvil best friend.
** I also have
some more neutralish tendencies that surface occasionally; really, I'm right at the intersection of ChaoticGood, ChaoticNeutral, NeutralGood and TrueNeutral.
* TheChessmaster.
* TheDaria -- A rare male version.
* DarkIsNotEvil -- I prefer Night's comforting silence to Day's mind-numbing cacophony.
* DeadpanSnarker.
* DysfunctionalFamily.
* Kuudere.
* MetaGuy.
* OccidentalOtaku.
* OTPs --Firefly Simon/Kaylee, Naruto Shikamaru/Temari, Bleach Kisuke/Yoruichi, Rock/Revy, Roy/Riza/Olivia, Kyon/Mikuru/Yuki.
* SophisticatedAsHell.
* TwoferTokenMinority -- I'm a Sino-Celtic Anarcho-Atheist Transhumanist. Beat that!

If all men were completely equal in their gifts and inclinations, we should have to treat them differently in order to achieve any sort of social organization. [...] There is all the difference in the world between treating people equally, and attempting to make them equal. While the first is the condition of a free society, the second is, as De Tocqueville describes it, merely "a new form of servitude."

I am an atheist, a meta-ethical emotivist, an epistemological naturalist, an emergentist-anarchist in the Nockian-Rothbardian tradition of free-market agorism and a radical in the original sense of the word (i.e. one who wishes to strike at the very root of an issue).
