My name is Emmeline, or Emma for short, but you can call me Cyto if you want. I'm a TV Tropes veteran (despite creating this account in June 2022, I've been around a lot longer since 2014 under a different handle), anime fan, writer, and former gamer. Transwoman, UsefulNotes/Bisexual, and prefers She/Her pronouns. I'm also into the YuriGenre.

I'm a regular at TropeLaunchPad, and my specialty is adopting abandoned drafts and improving them for launch.

As of August 19, 2022, I'm officially the herald of the New Media sub-forum, succeeding Tropers/Primis after they deleted their account.

Currently on hiatus due to university. Studies come first.

In fact, I quite enjoyed the Aincrad Arc for playing the DeadlyGame aspect very well. It's just after that, I felt the series suffered from SeasonalRot with poor narrative decisions and shoehorned cliches like harems bogging it down in order to stay relevant, and later arcs downplayed many of the aspects that made the initial plot of the Aincrad Arc so great. I guess that's a price to pay for becoming Creator/DengekiBunko's CashCowFranchise and kickstarting the modern Isekai genre.)

* CheeseStrategy: The fact that some games have oversights that players can abuse to "cheese" intended ways to play I find very amusing. Not to mention it's cathartic to break games in ways developers never accounted for as a fun experiment.
* Crossover: Whether be a CrisisCrossover or a MassiveMultiplayerCrossover, there's no doubt that crossovers between two or more works has always fascinated me because the appeal of characters from different series interacting with each other in ways not thought possible is good writing material. As a former fanfic writer, many of my now-defunct fanfics were crossovers for a reason. That said, I tend to have my limits with crossovers when it comes to UltimateShowdownOfUltimateDestiny types, because plain-old who-would-win spectacles don't really interest me anymore unless they're justified for narrative reasons (Fighting Games with player agency like VideoGame/SuperSmashBros don't count).
* ElegantGothicLolita: I have a huge soft spot for Victorian woman's fashion and I follow UsefulNotes/LolitaFashion in Japan regularly. Any character that happens to wear lolita dresses with lots of frills tends to become my favorites (although I draw the line at underage minors for obvious reasons).
* FantasyCounterpartCulture: Works that really go the extra mile to make their worlds as lively as possible by incorporating diverse cultures based on real world countries and regions, thus averting CreatorProvincialism, can't help but put a smile on my face. It takes a lot of dedication and research to pull it off right, and it helps to flesh out the Worldbuilding by bringing familiar and exotic locales, each distinct from one another, into the mix. The two best and my most favorite examples of this being done well are VideoGame/SonicUnleashed (Apatos, Spagonia, Mazuri, Chun-Nan, Holoska, Shamar, Empire City, and Adabat), and VideoGame/GenshinImpact (Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, Sumeru, Fontaine, Natlan, and Snezhnaya).
* FanworkOnlyFans: I'll admit that I'm only into some works because of fan content (Touhou being the biggest example of that), but even then, I find it a very fascinating concept that there are fans out there who don't engage in the original works that much (or at all) but still find enjoyment in them from what fans have to offer. I say that's good stuff.
* GoodBadBugs: Funny glitches always get a chuckle from me, as long as they don't render the games unplayable.
* Meido: I just find maids cute.
* MetropolisLevel: This may be cheating a bit since I did launch this trope under my previous handle but, I just love city levels in video games for how complex and open-ended they can be. Some of my favorites include Downtown Bikini Bottom, Nyakuza Metro, and Empire City.
* Miko: This one should be obvious given that I'm a massive Touhou fan and Reimu is my favorite protagonist from that series, but ever since I learned about the UsefulNotes/Shinto religion, shrine maiden characters have a special place in my heart. The fact that they're reserved but free-spirited while also helping people with their troubles gives me mad respect for their dedication. Doubly so if they happen to be badasses who exorcise spirits, monsters, etc.
* NebulousEvilOrganisation: A step beyond the QuirkyMinibossSquad while avoiding the pitfalls of the GoldfishPoopGang. What's better than one BigBad stealing the show? How about a Big Bad's entire posse of elites all rife to show the heroes that they mean business. Yeah, needless to say, villainous organizations is one of my most favorite villain tropes because there's so much storytelling potential that can be done with an entire group of bad guys that all share the same or similar goals as the main villain. Some of my favorite examples include the Akatsuki from Manga/Naruto, the Apostles of the Star from Manga/BlackCat, and the Fatui from VideoGame/GenshinImpact. Organization XIII from Franchise/KingdomHearts deserves an honorable mention too despite never having played the games myself, and while my time with the VideoGame/TrailsSeries was limited, I'll admit that their villain organization called Ouroboros is perhaps the best written of the bunch.
* SceneryPorn: Beautiful scenery can go a long way in establishing breathtaking setpieces for viewers to enjoy. I never get tired at admiring some fantastic sights every now and again.
* VariableMix: I love it when video games pull off dynamic soundtracks that change depending on context. It can either be subtle percussion/instrumental changes (ie: riding Yoshi in VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine, riding Rambi in VideoGame/DonkeyKongCountryTropicalFreeze, and entering different areas in VideoGame/AHatInTime), or drastic overhauls to suit the changing action (ie: enemy encounters in VideoGame/SpongebobSquarepantsCreatureFromTheKrustyKrab, Trance Mode in VideoGame/TouhouShinreibyouTenDesires, and the deeper parts of The Chasm: Underground Mines in VideoGame/GenshinImpact).

* ArtisticLicenseSpace: When done poorly and not Hand Waved properly, space inaccuracies can be immersion-breaking for a space nerd such as myself.
* BlackoutBasement: My least-favorite of the video game level archetypes (yes, even more so than water levels and ice levels). Reducing lighting and requiring a lamp item just to proceed isn't fun and only introduces FakeDifficulty into the mix, with the most egregious case being the Shadow Temple from VideoGame/TalesOfSymphonia. The only exception is The Chasm: Underground Mines from VideoGame/GenshinImpact, because at least there, the Lumenstone Adjuvant is only required for puzzles and is not vital for simply lighting up the place.
* ComplacentGamingSyndrome: I never really liked the idea of hyper-focusing on particular gameplay aspects for the "best results". All it does is start TierInducedScrappy debates and promote StopHavingFunGuys mentalities. Not to mention that playing the same character, equipment, playstyle, etc. all the time because of "superior stats" gets stale and boring after a while, and I'm one to think that any investment can make anything viable under the right circumstances.
* DrowningUnwantedPets: As a former pet owner who owned and took good care of my cat and dog until they passed away from old age, the very idea of discarding pets by killing them because they're a "liability" is downright cruel, and I shun animal cruelty right off the bat. Any work that features this will elicit both anger and sadness in me.
* LoliconAndShotacon: Sexualizing underage minors is a big no-no for me, especially in Japanese media.
* PlayboyBunny: Unless its inclusion makes a lot of sense and is utilized very well to not come off as a shoehorn (ie: LightNovel/RascalDoesNotDreamOfBunnyGirlSenpai using it as a means to tell a story about social insecurities, thus subverting fan expectations), most of the time, bunny suits are just blatant Fanservice pandering that add nothing of value to the work. I don't have much of an issue with it being relegated to fan art because at least there, it doesn't get in the way of the story and ruin immersion.
* PostSovietReunion: The 2022 Russia-Ukraine War soured my impression on this trope a lot and makes me reluctant to get immersed in settings that feature it as a plot point, even in AlternateHistory scenarios. For me, it's a case of "too soon".
* TrappedInAnotherWorld: Specifically its overuse in LightNovels. Oversaturation of the Isekai genre has caused me to grow tired of the very idea of being sent to another world as a plot point, and overall, I just find it as a lazy excuse to not try something unique for writing. Western media and older works pre-LightNovel/SwordArtOnline get a pass because it isn't as egregious.
* WereStillRelevantDammit: Memes and trends can be fun and all, but is it really necessary to shoehorn them into works for the sake of looking "hip"? They just come off as pretty jarring and out-of-place, especially in reboots of older works.
* Yandere: Honestly an extremely tired anime cliche that exists solely for shock value and has overstayed its welcome. "Psycho girl goes on a murderous rampage for her LoveInterest" can only be interesting so many times before it becomes painfully predictable.
