The related statement was made before anyone even approached Sapkowski for the rights to make the first game

* AuthorsSavingThrow: WordOfGod from Sapkowski is that [[spoiler:Geralt and Yennifer survived the ending where they were apparently killed in Rivia]]. This may be because of the popularity of the games' continuity, which established that they both survived the book's GainaxEnding.
* TorchTheFranchiseAndRun: According to WordOfGod, the writer intentionally killed most of the characters and doomed the entire setting with ThePlague simply because he was sick and tired with the Witcherverse and especially its fandom. He also wanted to make sure nobody would be able to pick up even without him, so even [[spoiler: Geralt and Yennefer bite it in the end]]. The GainaxEnding was vague enough to still produce [[VideoGame/TheWitcher three]] [[VideoGame/TheWitcher2AssassinsOfKings video]] [[VideoGame/TheWitcher3WildHunt games]], picking almost directly where the saga ended, but a lot of CrapsackWorld that exists in said games is the fallout of how the saga ended.
