The film version was one of two films in the process of being made as co-productions of [[Creator/DreamWorksSKG DreamWorks]] and Creator/{{Paramount}} when the latter acquired the former in February, 2006, the other being ''Film/{{Transformers}}'', thus giving Paramount the worldwide rights to both films.

* SteppingStoneSpouse: Curtis dates Effie for a long time, happy to be with her as long as she was the lead singer of the group, even though the group was struggling. But as the group grows in fame and Deena is moved to the forefront, Curtis' attention wanders. Eventually, Deena is made the permanent new lead and Curtis completely dumps Effie to be with Deena. Effie is eventually edged out of the group and left to return to poverty, while Curtis and Deena enjoy a luxurious life built off of what was originally Effie's dream.

After the 7-year TimeSkip that occurs between acts 1 and 2, it becomes clear Jimmy won't divorce his wife to marry Lorrell, despite leading her to believe otherwise for almost a decade. She eventually tires of his crap and finally ends the affair.

I don't believe that Curtis was using Effie. It seemed that he was genuinely interested in her, but he eventually lost interest due to Effie being hard to control. He was just a good guy turned evil.

* DramaticIrony: A Meta variation, "And I Am Telling You..." is Effie's lowest point, she's been kicked out of the group, lost Curtis and in her delusions is clinging on desperately to whatever level of stardom she thinks she is owed, and yet the song and the actress' power as a singer and humanity, ends up becoming the standout moment from the show, receiving some of the biggest cheers and thundering applause from audiences in any musical, that it usually wins people back to Effie's side for Act 2, after her {{Jerkass}} [[TheDiva Diva-ish]] personality through out act 1 usually turns people off to her.
