I'm acting as Charles in the play right now, and I know perfectly well that it is red meat that she avoids.

* SpookySeance: A humorous but not unrealistic version. Arcati was created especially for Creator/MargaretRutherford, but Coward hadn't realized that she was a Modern Spiritualist and concerned that the play would make fun of her religion. Initially Arcati was a fake who'd almost accidentally contacted dead people. Rutherford would have none of it and based her performance on real mediums. It's Charles, Elvira and Ruth who are taken lightly, not spirit communication. Arcati's healthy practices reflect recommendations for mediums in those days[[note]]Also Rutherford's love of bicycling; she used to ride her own bike onstage, braking neatly right before the footlights.[[/note]]. Even her hesitance to eat meat right before a session is TruthInTelevision.

* CannotCrossRunningWater: At the end, Charles announces to the invisible ghosts Elvira [[spoiler: and Ruth]] that he is going a long way away, where they will not be able to follow him, as he believes that ghosts cannot travel over water.
