Almost of this comes from the fact that his main gimmick was being an obnoxious {{Jerkass}}, with none of the other Reds and Blues' depth or quirks. His often transphobic quips falling into ValuesDissonance didn't help, either. It's telling that he's the only one of the main characters to have never returned after Season 5, and that he's been mostly forgotten by the fanbase.

At best, the Gods of Darkness and Light are seen as [[GodIsFlawed flawed deities]] who made catastrophic mistakes while trying to right the wrongs in their creations and who haven't fully owned up to those mistakes. At worst, they're seen as barbarically cruel, hypocritical, [[PsychopathicManchild immature]], genocidal maniacs; having sentenced Ozma to unimaginable suffering for Salem's crimes while he was dead, and having [[GreaterScopeVillain left a trail of misery and destruction across both Remnant and the Ever After which continues to impact characters across the setting to this day]]. Many fans believe that Remnant is better off if the Brothers stay gone and never return to enact the God of Light's planned judgment day.

Most of the bile he gets comes from the infamous scene in "Addict", where, when Angel Dust and Valentino are in a car, the latter tries to kiss and force himself onto the former. It doesn't help that most of his haters are Angel Dust fans who despise him for abusing Angel.

Thankfully, after "Tongue in Cheek", [[AuthorsSavingThrow they haven't appeared since]].
