Kazuya is not the imposter as proven in book 3

* '''Kazuya Togami'''. Fans ''despise'' the little twit, thanks to being an utterly remorseless murderer who ''rapes his step-sister moments after she's been mutilated'' and in the latter half acts completely arrogant over his the prophecy he's supposedly involved in. Many fans ''cheered'' when he is caught in the fire. It really does not help that Kazuya's implied to actually be the Ultimate Imposter, and as such many fans are outraged that Satou is trying to paint the Ultimate Imposter as a rapist by trying to poorly {{Retcon}} how ''[=DR2=]'' (and to a lesser extent ''[=DR3=]'') heavily indicated they had no relation to Togami in the first place.

* '''Hifumi Yamada''' is disliked for being a stereotypical FatBastard nerd, his perverted tendencies towards female characters, the NoYay relationship between him and [[ArtificialIntelligence Alter Ego]], killing off Kiyotaka (who is one of the more popular characters), and generally being unimportant for most of the plot. [[AlasPoorScrappy While people still felt bad when Hifumi died]], a lot of that sympathy goes away once you realize Hifumi tried to have everyone besides him and Celeste killed, and he's still an AssholeVictim regardless of whether or not he believed the accusations that Kiyotaka raped Celeste to be true. Even beyond that, Hifumi murdered a man for something he didn't do, not even bothering asking Kiyotaka about it before beating him to death. With all that under his belt, it's hard to feel bad for Hifumi, and most people didn't mourn his loss. [[https://youtu.be/MGFhxh-U6Dc A 2017 popularity poll conducted on Reddit]] saw Hifumi come in last place among every ''Danganronpa'' character, even below the {{Big Bad}}s and {{Hate Sink}}s, which says pretty clearly just how much Hifumi is disliked.

Few more from the same thread. Jin Kirigiri's hate mostly comes from an intended Fatal Flaw. Whether or not he's hated is intentional. Also, Angie Yonaga's entry was cut without reason, but she wouldn't fit either way, cause she fits more in Base Breaking.

* '''Jin Kirigiri''' slipped into this big time after ''Despair Arc'''s fourth episode showed him to be [[HorribleJudgeOfCharacter a complete]] and [[IdiotBall utter idiot]] who [[FatalFlaw valued talent above actually managing the school]].

Was discussed here as per part too. Ryota fits more in BBC due to still having fans despite how he was written in the final episodes. And while Tsumugi isn't loved as much, most of the hate comes from how one views the ending of V3, as if you find it anticlimactic, then you probably dislike Tsumugi too.

* '''Ryota Mitarai''' was initially one of the most popular characters thanks to his backstory and a numerous amount of theories about him. But after TheReveal of Tengan's plans in ''Future Arc'', Ryota's popularity took a nosedive. Introducing [[FanDislikedExplanation the brainwashing anime video]] didn't help. * The CosplayOtakuGirl and [[BigBad "mastermind" of the killing game]], '''Tsumugi Shirogane''', is fairly disliked by the fanbase. Before TheReveal of her being the "mastermind", she spends most of the story OutOfFocus, without establishing any meaningful relationships and lacking the CharacterDevelopment of the other surviving students. She is also a fountain of [[ShoutOut Shout-Outs]] to multiple anime and manga, but they mostly come out of nowhere and are seen as unnecessary. The fact that she's the Mastermind didn't win her many fans; she's seen as a ReplacementScrappy of the Mastermind of the previous two games, [[AxCrazy Junko Enoshima]], but one lacking Junko's unique traits and motivations. Tsumugi's role as the BigBad can be seen as a CaptainObviousReveal due to how little she contributes to the story aside from framing [[DecoyProtagonist Kaede]] of Rantaro's murder in the first chapter. Tsumugi's actions in the Final Trial don't make up for any of this; she's an AntiClimaxBoss, seeing how little effort she puts into hiding her identity as the "mastermind", unlike Junko, who tried to keep it a secret until the end. The only point in Tsumugi's favor is her ability to [[VoluntaryShapeshifting quickly cosplay as the characters from the previous two games]], which was well-received. However, that wasn't enough to get her RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap.

Cut per thread. Hiyoko is considered to be a case of Americans Hate Tingle, so her reception isn't completely negative.

* '''Hiyoko Saionji''' is a {{Jerkass}} who uses her [[OlderThanSheLooks child-like appearance and]] [[TheFakeCutie talent as a traditional dancer]] to gain popularity. She spends most of her screentime [[TheBully bullying]] Mikan and Kazuichi, with a preference for bullying the former by SlutShaming her. Not even Hiyoko's PetTheDog moments with Mahiru is enough for fans to enjoy her character. It doesn't help much that Mikan is also fairly liked, making Hiyoko look even worse. Players that complete Hiyoko's Free Time Events claim that [[HiddenDepths there's more to her character]], and that she was going through CharacterDevelopment in chapter 3 for the recently-deceased Mahiru (only to get cut short by her own death). Hiyoko's appearance in ''Anime/Danganronpa3TheEndOfHopesPeakHighSchool'' also tried to tone down her bullying tendencies as an AuthorsSavingThrow. Nevertheless, fans [[NeverLiveItDown won't let the writers forget it]] when it comes to how horrible Hiyoko was to Mikan, and Hiyoko remains one of the most disliked characters in the franchise. The Reddit popularity poll had Hiyoko as the lowest-ranked female character and the third-lowest character overall, only outranking fellow Scrappies Hifumi and Teruteru.

Tsumugi's actions in the Final Trial don't make up for any of this; she's an AnticlimaxBoss seeing how little effort she puts into hiding her identity as the Mastermind, unlike Junko who tried to keep it a secret until the end. The only point in Tsumugi's favor is her ability to [[VoluntaryShapeshifting quickly cosplay as the characters from the previous two games]], which was well-received. However, that wasn't enough to get her RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap.

One of his {{Establishing Character Moment}}s is trying to trick [[PrincessClassic Sonia Nevermind]] into giving him a blowjob; while this was meant to make Teruteru come off as creepy, it was seen as going way too far. Granted, his execution and the circumstances surrounding it [[AlasPoorScrappy earned him some sympathy]], but much of it vanished after his Free Time Events. There is very little revealed about Teruteru, [[{{Hypocrite}} several of his Events contradict his love for his family]] by portraying him as resentful, and end with him drugging Hajime. His appearances in ''Anime/Danganronpa3'' were better received, but it wasn't enough to get him RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap. [[https://youtu.be/MGFhxh-U6Dc The 2017 Reddit popularity poll conducted on Reddit]] poll]] saw Teruteru in the second-lowest spot, just above the aforementioned Hifumi Yamada.
** Hiyoko Saionji * '''Hiyoko Saionji''' is a {{Jerkass}} who uses her [[OlderThanSheLooks child-like appearance and]] [[TheFakeCutie talent as a traditional dancer]] to gain popularity. Hiyoko's appearance in [[Anime/Danganronpa3 the game's anime adaptation]] ''Anime/Danganronpa3TheEndOfHopesPeakHighSchool'' also tried to tone down her bullying tendencies as an AuthorsSavingThrow. Nevertheless, fans [[NeverLiveItDown won't let the writers forget it]] when it comes to how horrible Hiyoko was to Mikan, and Hiyoko remains one of the most disliked characters in the franchise. [[https://youtu.be/MGFhxh-U6Dc The 2017 Reddit popularity poll had Hiyoko as the lowest-ranked female character]] character and the third-lowest character overall, only outranking fellow Scrappies Hifumi and Teruteru.

* ''VideoGame/DanganronpaAnotherEpisodeUltraDespairGirls'': Kanon Nakajima, '''Kanon Nakajima''', co-protagonist of ''Ultra Despair Hagakure'' and Leon Kuwata's cousin, is pretty unpopular due to most of her character being [[KissingCousins obsessively in love with her cousin]], to the point of being an outright {{Yandere}}. Leon has constantly rejected Kanon's advances -- at one point in dialogue, it's said that she confessed her love to him ''3,909'' times in ten years -- that's an average of more than once per day for a decade. Despite this, a good portion of the book is spent on her rather creepy obsession with her cousin without much development besides this one-note characterization, leading to Kanon taking away focus from the actual main character of the book.book.

** The CosplayOtakuGirl and [[BigBad Mastermind of the killing game]] Tsumugi Shirogane is fairly disliked by the fanbase. Before TheReveal of her being The Mastermind, she spends most of the story OutOfFocus, without establishing any meaningful relationships and lacking the CharacterDevelopment of the other surviving students.

* ''VisualNovel/DanganronpaTriggerHappyHavoc'': Hifumi Yamada is disliked for being a stereotypical FatBastard nerd, his perverted tendencies towards female characters, the NoYay relationship between him and [[ArtificialIntelligence Alter Ego]], killing off Kiyotaka (who is one of the more popular characters), and generally being unimportant for most of the plot. [[AlasPoorScrappy While people still felt bad when Hifumi died]], a lot of that sympathy goes away once you realize Hifumi tried to have everyone besides him and Celeste killed, and he's still an AssholeVictim regardless of whether or not he believed the accusations that Taka raped Celeste to be true. Even beyond that, Hifumi murdered a man for something he didn't do, not even bothering asking Taka about it before beating him to death.

** Yasuhiro Hagakure was this for a time after the game's release. Despite being intended as a part of the game's source of comedy, his selfish behavior, idiotic and often nonsensical tangents and his attempt to use Naegi as a way of avoiding his debts ''all'' made fans somewhat tired of his behavior throughout the game. While not an awful person, many fans would often cheer when he was made fun of or something unfortunate happened to him due to finding him obnoxious. That said, he was later RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap, and is viewed in a much better light.

** Kazuo Tengan, [[HateSink isn't meant to be liked]], though he ended up being disliked for reasons other than intended. He was originally one of the [[EnsembleDarkhorse fan favorites]] for delivering a beatdown on Juzo and Munakata. But a combination of inconsistent characterization, nonsensical motivations, and a terrible "plan" has led to a ''sharp'' drop in popularity. Many fans agree that Yukizome should've been the mastermind instead of Tengan, and other parties would prefer that [[VideoGame/DanganronpaAnotherEpisodeUltraDespairGirls Monaca Towa]] should have been the final antagonist of the series. ** Angie Yonaga. Common reasons include her cultist shtick being rather one-note and creepy, [[DieForOurShip her continued inference in Tenko Chabashira and Himiko Yumeno's relationship]], her perceived lack of character depths in an installment praised for more complex characterization and hijacking everyone's efforts in Chapter 3 to impose her religious beliefs, which in practice makes her look like an unsympathetic, delusional tyrant. Even her attempted PetTheDog moment did little to satisfy fans, and some accuse her of being {{straw|Character}}man for which Kodaka can project his views on religion.
** The Monokubs have their own share of detractors, who consider them annoying and less appealing than Monokuma and a ReplacementScrappy to Usami/Monomi from the previous game. This applies in-universe as well, as the audience watching the ''Danganronpa'' reality TV show finds the kubs annoying as well. Even [[NiceGuy Shuichi]] doesn't seem to care when they get blown up in the final trial, and when they engage him in a Rebuttal Showdown to save themselves, he coldly reminds them that none of the deceased students wanted to die either (except for [[DeathSeeker Ryoma]], [[DrivenToSuicide who allowed himself to be murdered by Kirumi Tojo]]).
*** Monokid and Monophanie are easily the most disliked among the Monokubs. Monokid is meant to be a HateSink that does nothing but [[TheLoad be an annoyance to his siblings]] and [[KickTheDog mistreat Monodam]] all the time he is on-screen.
