* Manga/Beastars: The characters introduced in the second half of this series are extremely hit or miss. You've some here and there that pretty much everyone loves like Gosha, Sebun, Zaguan, and Agata. You've got some that are meant to be terrible but nuanced people that end up becoming Base Breaking Characters due to poor writing like Yafya, Melon, and Leano. And then there's Kyuu. If someone tells you they like Kyuu they're probably lying to you. She and her Imaginary Chimera power, which are seen by most as basically budget Stands, being introduced marked what seemed to be a point of no return for this once beloved series. Following her introduction, the series began to rapidly descend into complete incoherence on its march towards cancellation. And that Imaginary Chimera power? It didn't end up factoring into the plot whatsoever. It was literally just weirdness for its own sake that was forgotten about as quickly as it was brought up.

His grating voice, pathetic cowardice, constantly taunting and repeatedly trying to inflict BodyHorror on Wolverine, a truly bizarre SissyVillain attitude, and all-too-realistic sexual and physical abuse of Mariko Yashida, worsened by the real-life sexual harassment allegations against his voice actor Creator/VicMignogna, has not endeared him to any fans in the slightest. Most people who watched the show desperately wished that Wolverine simply killed him quickly and get it over with as early as in the fourth episode when he had the chance before fighting the fan-favorite Omega Red. In addition, he kept hogging all the screen time as opposed to his much more menacing ally Shingen or even the monstrous Omega Red, and every time he shows up, he keeps finding ways to be even more pathetic and disgusting than before, with fans wanting him to just die so that the rest of the series could still be salvaged with better villains. In fact, he was so despised that he was ultimately not seen or mentioned by name again in any of the other Marvel movies, animation, or comic books that would visit the same story, such as Film/TheWolverine. Even the creators of the Wolverine anime seem to know this well, as when they did put Wolverine into the other anime projects (Iron Man, Blade, and X-Men), they made certain to exclusively write Mariko’s death as a result of Hideki’s supplier A.I.M., and not Hideki himself.

Not only did this not happen, with Hideki lasting all the way until the end of the series, being the FinalBoss, but he ultimately puts the final nail in the coffin by calling Mariko a “whore” and then turning the whole anime into a giant ShootTheShaggyDog story by shooting her dead just as Wolverine was finally able to rescue her and end his quest.

*** Shingen hasn’t gotten much fans either, because in this continuity, he spends his screen time being both a one-dimensional, generic Jerkass who never seems to be called out for his actions, even when he abused Hideki, who was supposed to help him fulfill his plans in the first place through his forcing his own daughter to proceed through an arranged marriage. He also gets treated like an inexplicably dangerous VillainSue for no other reason than to show that he is the main threat that Wolverine has to face. His bloated HonorBeforeReason mindset also doesn’t help, neither does his stereotypical arrogant BloodKnight attitude towards Wolverine and Koh. Fans especially don’t like him for taking away too much time and attention from other fan-favorite villains that appear here, like Omega Red.

Even after his HeroicSacrifice, by that point his actions are so pointless an deplorable that any sympathy and respect that he may have had during his first appearance had all but vanished.

*** Shingen’s daughter Mariko gets it worse, due to her being basically a Wangsty load who constantly whines that she deserves her miserable fate and does not make a single move to stop her arranged marriage or at least stand up to her tyrannical father. She was especially despised for essentially being a MacGuffin plot device just to give the anime some purpose rather than being her one self. When it seems like that she was able to show some spine at the end of the series by attempting to shield a wounded Wolverine from Hideki, she ultimately makes the entire show completely pointless with her death, however, that may be excused as fans know well that she would have died anyway, no matter what Wolverine did, but her death was so poorly executed and random that it basically turned off fans and lead them to stop caring about the anime even as it ends.

* Anime/MarvelAnime:
** This version of Logan/Wolverine was not very well received by fans, particularly for his PrettyBoy design. Likewise, his voice acting from Creator/MiloVentimiglia was also not appreciated. Despite this, this is the same version of Wolverine that showed up not just in this anime, but also in Iron Man and Blade, albeit in one episode each. Many fans lamented that Creator/SteveBlum, the man famous for voicing Wolverine in numerous Marvel media, was not approached for the role and instead used to voice another character, who happened to be his rival, no less. The creators seem to notice this too, as they would later hire Blum to voice the very same role by the time the X-Men anime was made, complete with the appropriate character design for Wolverine.

It doesn't help that the role of Supreme Kai was poorly defined within the original story, making him feel extraneous to the setting.

** Shin, the Eastern Supreme Kai, gets a lot of flak from the fanbase. His role in the story largely amounts to hyping up Buu as the next major threat, but Shin himself doesn’t make much of an impression power-wise beyond Piccolo's deference to his poorly-defined (at least in Z) position as Supreme Kai. While Trunks served a similar role in hyping up the next threat, he made a stronger first impression by easily defeating Frieza and his father, and was conceptually more interesting as Vegeta and Bulma's future son. Many of his actions also make him look incompetent in hindsight, such as letting Spopovich and Yamu steal Gohan's energy just to trail them despite his ability to read minds, and never warning anyone that Buu could absorb his opponents despite seeing it happen firsthand.
