** Was all of this too easy for you? On the Spirit Board you may find Donkey Kong and Lady, which is a rather cruel variant of the above fight. You have to beat a giant Donkey Kong with super armor in a stamina battle, and he has a metric ton of stamina and enough strength to destroy you in seconds. To complicate things, Peach is also in the fight, representing Lady/Pauline, but this time you have to protect her or you lose, and she goes out of her way to get involved in the fighting. None of this is helped by the fact that you fight in the awkward 75m, and unlike with the Pauline spirit, hazards ''are'' turned on this time.

** On the subject of Earthbound Beginnings Spirits, Ninten can also be a pain in the arse to those who aren't careful. It's you in a Stamina Battle against 4 Ness, all of whom will ''gladly'' spam their PK Moves (which have increased attack power) and will leave you open to more attacks if you're not careful. Giygas have mercy if you get caught in even one PK Fire, cause once you're trapped, they'll gladly keep firing away like there's no tomorrow. Not helped is how much like Ana's Spirit, you fight on Magicant, which doesn't give you much room to escape since there's 4 enemies you have to deal with. [[SarcasmMode Have fun!]]

* Ashley is hell to go through. You have to deal with both a very competent Mii Swordfighter (dressed as Ashley, of course) AND a tiny Ridley, on a hazard-filled Warioware. It also starts with an Ashley assist trophy, which is already an annoying assist (and you can't even harm her, even with the Assist Killer spirits). The worst part about it is that your left and right controls will randomly reverse from time to time, easily screwing you over. So if you don't have a spirit that prevents the effect (which you likely won't this early in the game, depending on where you go first), this battle '''will''' give you a hard time.
* Ana pits you against a female Villager and a Ness who likes to spam PK Fire, which can ''stun you''.

* The Yarn Yoshi fight might seem easy enough, with the easy-to-launch condition set for every fighter, but you have to deal with four Yoshis that attack you at every moment they can, making ''you'' get launched easily.

* Ho-oh fight is, without a doubt, the hardest within the Bowser Castle dungeon. The spirit battle puts you against a Charizard with a permanent curry, meaning that it will be always spitting fire, said Charizard is also very aggressive and difficult to launch (it is possessed by a legendary spirit after all) and its huge power of 13900 means that it will tear you apart in seconds unless you have an equally strong spirit. On top of that, on the middle of the fight, Ho-oh itself will appear and will raise fire pillars that will limit your movement. Fortunately, there are ways of easing the fight, such as equipping a spirit (like Ana) that give you a Franklin Badge, which will reflect Charizard´s curry fire breath and you can also use the pillars to damage and launch Charizard as well. Nonetheless, it is a very hard fight.

* The Boss is ''easily'' among the most difficult of all the Spirit Battles. The reasons are numerous: you fight a smart and reactive Zero Suit Samus, on a stage with no platforms, while the ground is covered in poison, while she has over ''13,000'' power. This means you ''have'' to come in with at least one Support Spirit of poison immunity, as she will outdamage you with the poison constantly draining your health away. Even worse, midway through the fight, Samus receives a potent Defense Up boost that makes damaging her much harder. While this wouldn't be much of a problem due to being a Stamina Battle (and thus being able to cheese her out with ranged hits), this particular battle is timed, meaning that you can lose if you don't kill her by the time the clock runs out. Even worse, it's almost certain that she will charge up her Final Smash at least once over the course of the fight, which is a free 20% she gets off of you, since her A.I tracks you scarily well while she's aiming her laser. It is possible to end her quickly before she does any significant harm with a strong (or lucky) edgeguard, but chances are that early in the game, most characters with good edgeguarding technique will not be available to you. All of this comes together to make a Spirit that is a nightmare to fight, but thankfully, she is completely optional and tucked away in the center of the Jungle.

* Sigma. The fight is a stamina battle against a Ganondorf with a beam sword, and he constantly attacks you with not only the beam sword, but also his other attacks.
* The Victini fight features an Incineroar that can easily launch the player as far as possible, which usually starts with it's final smash that it uses almost immediately in the beginning of the match thanks to the pokeball that automatically contains a victini. This will either KO the player immediately or cause enough damage to ensure that the next attack ''does KO the player''.

* Pauline. The map is 75m and the target is a [[GetBackHereBoss pacifist]] Peach, and her backup is a Mario who starts with a Hammer and a ''giant'' Donkey Kong. Sound simple on a map as big as 75m? Not quite. First of all, your jump height is reduced (though Bunny Hoods spawn for you to remedy this). Secondly, another item that commonly spawns is the Stopwatch. And third, there's a ''minute-and-a-half'' time limit. It turns out that Mario and Donkey Kong are actually ''really good'' at wasting your time, with one of them blitzing you as you chase Peach while the other farms Stopwatches; Donkey Kong in fact will use his grapple Forward Throw and just ''hold you there'' with it, not even attacking. You'll almost certainly have to KO Mario and DK before you can get at Peach with any big hits, which is a diffcult task with the strict time limit. Compounding this is the fact that the game ''doesn't tell you'' about Peach fleeing from you before the stage starts. Pauline has gathered such a reputation shortly after the game's release that the average strategy is to wait for ArtificialStupidity to kick in so Peach self destructs. Which will take forever because Peach will usually just stand still if you aren't near her, and the stage has its hazards disabled.
** Oh, and even if Peach attempts to recover from a fall with her parasol and misses, and you see that she's about to be KO'd, you could still get KO'd first by a stray hit from Mario or Donkey Kong, or by the time running out before Peach floats completely offscreen.
** Thankfully, by using a spirit that spawns you with a staff, you can win the fight very quickly by climbing the ladder and immediately sniping Peach with two well-placed shots.

* The Dr. Eggman spirit battle is no slouch either. It has you up against Roy Koopa (representing Eggman himself) and a metal Sonic (who is Metal Sonic, [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin of course.]]) Wouldn't be so bad on its own, except that ranged items keep spawning, and they are gravitated toward the AI. If that metal Sonic takes a lot of damage and grabs a Rage Blaster, you're screwed. And worst of all, Bob-ombs fall from the sky every fifteen seconds or so. There's no way of knowing where they will fall, and you'll need incredible reflexes to avoid them.

* If you thought Rayman was bad, Akira would like to say hello. Take a Ryu with much higher health than you that requires extra Stamina spirits to even come close to, add in high-gravity to possibly waste a spirit slot or make it harder to dodge Ryu's attacks, add an Assist Trophy that's basically a second Ryu that can perform synchronized combos with the real Ryu, and the result is a spirit that can drive you insane. Think of bringing an Assist Killer support to help you? Too bad, because the Akira assist can ''block'' your attacks, giving Ryu more time to damage you.

* Omega Ridley might show up late, but it still is a pain for how late it is. Ridley is already a powerhouse, but he's easy to launch, so no problem, right? Well, this Ridley is metal, making it harder for you to launch. As if that wasn't enough, Ridley is constantly under the effects of Superspicy Curry, requiring projectiles or a Franklin badge to even attack. Oh, and the stage you fight him on? Norfair, which has all its rising lava intact.

* Guile is an equally massive pain in the ass, and the battle pits you against him and Captain Falcon, the latter of whom is more than willing to get in your face. Falcon has 180 HP, just like other Legend-class Spirits, but it's him pestering your face while Guile Sonic Booms you in the interim that will drive you up a wall. Want to take Guile out with Assist Killer? ''It's fucking Guile'' -- he will merely Flash Kick you away if you don't have a whip, and Falcon can soak up projectiles like a boss. This match is a very ugly instance of CharacterSelectForcing, because mixup and rushdown characters like Pikachu are going nowhere against this double team from hell.

* Ana's Spirit Battle is ''frustrating''. It would be easy if she was all by herself, since she's simply a Villager with the ability to heal herself, but she's accompanied by Ness, who represents Ninten. Due to Magicant's small size, it's frequent for Ana and Ninten to gang up on their opponent, and it's necessary to seperate them. It's especially frustrating when Ninten and Ana spam the Lloyd Rocket and PK Fire respectively. Even if you like Ness and the Villager, or like Ninten and Ana, this fight could turn the most level-headed person into a ChildHater.
* Hal Emmerich (also known as Otacon) is a good example of SurpriseDifficulty (his Spirit Team Level is much lower than other ThatOneLevel ones with high values in the 9,000-12,000). He himself (Dr. Mario) is extremely cowardly and won't bother to even attack you, but the R.O.B. that comes with him is metallic and is VERY hard to knock out (he barely even flinches). Heck, he can even charge up his Final Smash meter, and it's over if that hits you.
* Ironically, Geno can turn into a mess very quickly due to GangUpOnTheHuman. The fight is a 3 vs. 1 battle against five AI players who each represent one of the five party members from Super Mario RPG, all of whom are reasonably competent enough to completely obliterate you if you let them surround you. The primary target is a Sheik with a Super Scope, but she doesn't spawn in until after the second enemy dies, meaning you will have to go through two enemies first, and they will very easily wear you down significantly before the Sheik even gets a chance to spawn.
* Great Fairy is another doozy. She takes the form of a Zelda that is both Giant and has Increased FS Gain, which is a mean enough combo in its own. But then she ramps it up and adds two more skills to the mix: the first is increased Special power, which makes the already hard-hitting and hard-to-dodge Giant hit even harder. The second and even worse skill is ''Critical Health Recovery'', which means she heals a significant chunk of damage after it passes a certain threshold. Unless you KO her with the blow that triggers the heal, not only will she recover from your hard work (and it ''is'' hard work, as her Spirit Power is 9,500), but because of Increased FS Gain, she will likely have her Final Smash ready when she does. Not helping matters is that Zelda has a Danger Zone-style Final Smash that has a ridiculous range because she is Giant, and with the beating you're likely to take from her Special spam, this ''will'' KO you.
* Pauline, a spirit with a whopping 13,700 power, was designed to be more frustrating than she is hard. The map is 75m and the target is a [[GetBackHereBoss pacifist]] Peach, and her backup is a Mario who starts with a Hammer and a ''giant'' Donkey Kong. Sound simple on a map as big as 75m? Not quite. It turns out that Mario and Donkey Kong are actually ''really good'' at wasting your time, with one of them blitzing you as you chase Peach while the other farms Stopwatches; Donkey Kong in fact will use his grapple Side-B and just ''hold you there'' with it, not even attacking.
** The "Donkey Kong and Lady" fight, which is thankfully Spirit Board exclusive, is basically an inversion of this: you and a computer-controlled Peach against a giant [[DamageSpongeBoss (and very healthy)]] Donkey Kong in a stamina battle. To win, you must knock out Donkey Kong ''and'' ensure Peach survives, and unlike in the Pauline fight, staying alive is ''not'' her top priority. Since it's another Legend Spirit, the fight would be a decent challenge even without the EscortMission element.
* The Power Star spirit fight has you fighting against a Rosalina that randomly becomes invincible. In itself, the fight isn't difficult, but very time-consuming because power stars land everywhere, and both you ''and'' Rosalina can get them, leading to a long, protracted match.
* Rover. Jesus ''God'', he’s annoying. You fight Sheik and two Villagers. They spam Lloid Rocket. You fight in the train. The stage moves at high speed. They move and strike faster. They gang up on you easily. It’s hard to escape. [[MostAnnoyingSound You will grow to hate the Animal Crossing item jingle after this]].
* M.Bison is a brutal fight that lives up to the final boss of ''VideoGame/StreetFighterII''. You fight Ganondorf and with the same rules as most other ''Street Fighter'' battles (Stamina mode with limited jumping), but on top of that, he ''reflects projectiles'', so you can't snipe him from afar. Getting close is difficult because he hits like a truck, and worst of all, you get ''weaker'' after a short amount of time.
* Kapp'n does a good job showing the players [[WakeUpCallBoss how difficult they can make things for themselves if they don't bother to mix up the spirits they use]]. Your opponent is Iggy on the ocean rocks section of Wuhu Resort, with the gimmick being that a permanent gust is constantly shoving you to the left side of the screen, and [[SuperDrowningSkills you drown almost instantly if you fall into the water]]. Thankfully the wind won't push you off the ledges, but it's hardly a mitigating factor when Iggy, [[MyRulesAreNotYourRules not handicapped by either terrain effect]], guns right for you with his wide variety of attacks with strong launch power. The harsh wind will make you get launched even farther than normal, and will also greatly hamper your attempts to get back to the stage before hitting the water. You can very easily get killed in just one attack. Spirits exist that reduce the effect the wind has on you, making this fight much more tolerable, but those that don't take the time to switch out their spirits are in for a hellish ride.
* Giga Mac is a stamina battle against a giant Little Mac who is extremely hard to grab or make flinch. You're likely to see him shred through your stamina while barely making a dent in his.

* Ironically,
Geno can turn into a mess very quickly due to GangUpOnTheHuman.
* Pauline, a spirit with a whopping 13,700 power, was designed to be more frustrating than she is hard.Pauline. The map is 75m and the target is a [[GetBackHereBoss pacifist]] Peach, and her backup is a Mario who starts with a Hammer and a ''giant'' Donkey Kong. Sound simple on a map as big as 75m? Not quite. disabled.

* The Chorus Kids are also rather tricky. There are three Jigglypuffs to fight in their battle. Problem is, they spam their Sing special move, making it more and more likely that you’ll get put to sleep and clobbered by them.
* Despite their Spirit Power not being that high, Latias & Latios can become a lot of trouble. You're fighting two Charizards, one red and one blue, but the ''actual'' Latias and Latios will appear at the beginning of the battle and zip around all over the place while the Charizards aggressively and relentlessly hunt you down to knock you into the Eon Pokémon. Small, agile characters can dodge them better but will get destroyed if they get hit, but larger, slower characters, while they can take more damage, have a much tougher time dodging and will get kicked back and forth like a soccer ball. The stage is also one of the canals at Delfino Square, a small location with blast lines close by (representing Altomare in ''Anime/PokemonHeroes''), making it easy to get knocked out, and if you pick on one of the Charizards, the other one ''will'' come over and mess you up.
* As for Spirit Board-only fights, there's Paula. It's a stamina match against Ness in Onett, and he gets a free Final Smash a couple seconds after the match starts. The nature of his Final Smash already makes this a LuckBasedMission, as there are no guaranteed safe zones and the meteors can potentially fall in such a way that it is impossible to dodge all of them. After you've more than likely lost a decent chunk of your health from this, you'll realize that this Ness ''loves'' spamming PK Fire. Not only does this move ravage your stamina, but the lack of knockback scaling in stamina matches makes it easier for the move to trap you and leave you vulnerable to more attacks, [[CycleOfHurting including more PK Fires]]. He's also joined by a female Villager after 30 seconds or so who likes to harass you from afar with side-specials and -aerials.
* Another Spirit Board-exclusive fight that can be a major pain is Super Sonic. The fight starts out against a Golden Sonic. The Golden status, if you didn't know, gives your opponent Super Armor, and makes their attacks strong enough to launch you at lower percentages. Normally reserved for the Golden Plains stage, it's usually temporary. Unfortunately, this status is permanently given to some spirits. This turns the ordinarily FragileSpeedster Sonic into a LightningBruiser that can speed through the stage, combo you, and KO at 60%. This would already be bad (especially considering that the Sonic you face has a high AI), but Sonic also ''starts with a Final Smash'', which is borderline undodgeable, as Super Sonic is able to quickly lock on to your position and knock you around, potentially even killing light characters. And if you survive, that just makes it easier for you to get KO'd by Super Sonic. And if you prolong the match, he may use it more than once...

* Black Shadow is another Spirit Board-exclusive that belongs in this category. You fight Captain Falcon and a giant Ganondorf, both of which have incredibly smart AI. Adding to that is that Ganondorf has some of the most powerful moves in the game, and he ''will'' spam his most powerful attacks which means he can send you flying into the high percentages and KO you not even 30 seconds into the battle, while you can barely make a dent in him.

* Baby Bowser is yet another Spirit Board-exclusive that can be a major pain in the ass. It's a stamina match against two Bowsers, one tiny and one giant, on the Omega form of Find Mii entirely covered in lava, meaning a lava immunity Spirit is an absolute must. While the tiny Bowser isn't that overly difficult, the giant Bowser is a major pain to kill, as he will spam his most powerful attacks which hit like a truck, and if you're not good at dodging can (and probably will) reduce your stamina from full to zero in literally seconds.

''Hoo boy'', you are not ready for some of the Spirit Battles that ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate''[='=]s Adventure Mode World of Light (and the standard Spirit Mode) throws at you. A number of them have become infamous for chewing up players and spitting them out:

--------------

* 9-Volt & 18 Volt's Spirit Battle is pure agony, even on easy. You have to fight a Villager who loves to spam projectiles, an Incineroar who likes to grab you so his teammates can rack up damage on you, and worst of all, a permanent Sheriff Assist Trophy. Sheriff's attacks are quick, have infinite range, cannot be blocked or reflected, and inflict significant knockback, and with all the enemies ganging up on you, trying to do anything without getting locked in hitstun is nearly impossible. Sure, you could try to get rid of Sheriff first, but Sheriff is ImmuneToFlinching, very durable (although an Assist Killer Spirit helps greatly with that), and you have to worry about the other enemies attacking you. Just to top it all off, the stage keeps dropping Galagas that the enemy ''will'' use as soon as they appear. Given all the attacks that keep knocking you around, it's only a matter of time until something knocks you into a Galaga, leading to an unavoidable KO. Worst of all, you could even try to use the Galaga against them, but due to the constant bullet spam from the Sheriff, the Galagas will probably get destroyed even afterwards.
* Dr. Wily is the optional spirit battle of the Base, and boy ''howdy'', is he extremely tough. The fight is a stamina battle against eight Metal Mega Men, who will relentlessly pursue you with deadly ranged attacks and relentless fervor. Wily himself isn't too tough due to just being a single Doctor Mario, but the battle to get to him is extremely difficult.
* Jeff's Spirit Battle is a pain in the ass, considering the fact that the stage (Onett) will mean you'll have to move around. And the Inklings LOVE to spam their projectiles, and said projectiles are far more powerful here. And since it's the Inklings (all of them the same color), they'll splatter paint on you, making it harder for you to tell where you're at. And to add insult to injury, Assist Trophy Jeff will appear at certain intervals and shoot his bottle rockets, which are incredibly accurate unless you keep moving.

* The Power Star spirit fight has you fighting against a Rosalina that randomly becomes invincible. In itself, the fight isn't difficult, but very time-consuming because power stars land everywhere, and both you ''and'' Rosalina can get them, leading to a long, protracted match.

* Rayman may not seem overly threatening at a glance, but the battle has the right combination of elements to make it quite the trial. You engage in a stamina battle against Sonic, whose incredible speed makes him hard to keep up with and lets him get in your face instantly. What takes the fight into the realm of frustrating is that a Sukapon Assist Trophy ([[RaymanianLimbs the actual Rayman stand-in]]) will also be attacking you. Trying to drain Sonic's health becomes a nightmare when Sukapon can launch his head at you from a great distance to interrupt your attacks and deal a ton of damage, or throw you away if you get too close to him. Fortunately, like with most fights with assists, if you manage to defeat Sukapon (which is not as hard, as Sukapon may be strong, but he is not too durable), the fight becomes far more manageable.
** Speaking of Sukapon, while his proper Spirit Battle isn't in World of Light, it does have a rare chance of appearing on the Spirit Board. This fight is twice as bad as Rayman because Sukapon is a Legend spirit with 13,700 Power and puppets a Mii Gunner with 180 HP in a Stamina Battle. This Mii Gunner is extremely aggressive and nimble, preferring to zone you with her multitude of ranged attacks to make avoiding Sukapon almost impossible. Thanks to the enemy's high HP and [=AI=] level, it's more than likely you'll have to [=KO=] Sukapon ''twice'' before the fight is over. And to make matters worse, the Mii Gunner periodically gets a damage buff to keep the pressure on you even if Sukapon is gone.
