Eventually, Cream and Cheese are the only ones Emerl is unable to copy because they are too nimble. After seeing him earlier attack her mother and seeing Sonic take a hit meant for her, she regretfully believes they have no choice but to fight their robot friend. He sinks into the bottom of the sea, [[HopeSpot regaining his memories and shedding tears after "copying" Cream's feelings.]] Unfortunately, he explodes. Cream and Cheese are both visibly on the verge of tears, while the others just watch sympathetically.

** The ending of (what was intended to be) the series finale shows Sonic taking Chris's arms, telling him to hold on tight while he takes him for one final run before returning home. You can see that even though Sonic's face isn't shown, there are still tears streaming down his face. Y'know, just to hammer it all home.
** And what makes the last few episodes of Season 2/Series 1 so depressing is that you'd think that Sonic and company would maybe be able to see all of their human friends again and eventually reunite with them, but this never happens for the rest of the series (besides Chris returning in Season 3/Series 2), meaning that when Sonic's friends have their tearful goodbyes with Chris's family and the other human characters, this is actually the last time they will ever see each other.
