* The Kaiju of this episode, Garnix, traps the cast in a PsychologicalTormentZone in which they are placed back in their respective lowest moments in their lives; Yume the day that her sister seemingly committed suicide, Koyomi the day in which Inamoto tried to convince him to run away with her with potentially illegal money, Gauma during the day that the Eugenicists turned against their country and he was forced to kill them, and Knight during the time where he failed to kill Gridman and was thrown out and rejected by Ayane. The only one who's immune to these suggestions is Yomogi and that comes down to [[OnlySaneMan his own trauma being rather mundane compared to the rest]].

When a villian rejects a chance at redemption after hints they might turn away, that is not a Heel Face Door Slam, that's Redemption Rejection. Thus I am changing it to the appropriate trope.

* The Kaiju Eugenicists' deaths. After several episodes teased the idea of them being able to find a purpose of living with humanity, this episode had them double down on their HeelFaceDoorSlam.

A "Lotus Eater Machine" that inflicts torment instead of happiness to trap its victims is not a Lotus Eater Machine. It's a Psychological Torment Zone. As such, I am updating the references to the trope here appropriately.

* With Yume we learn that Futaba was telling the truth after all in the previous episode; the death of her sister really was just a tragic accident.

* When Yume and Yomogi meet up with Futaba for more information on Kano's death, and unfortunately they don't get much. First off, he straight up dismisses the idea of her death being a suicide or that she was being bullied, because he doesn't believe Kano was suicidal nor did he see her getting bullied. Yume breaks down in tears and starts tearing into him for not helping her, especially since he was her boyfriend at the time.

* Without Kaiju to control, the Kaiju Eugenicists believe they lost this fight with Gauma and sadly go their separate ways. They've essentially lost their sense of purpose in life, and it hurts to see.
** Later, we see Juuga, Mujina, and Onija on their own. Juuga's wandering the streets on his own, Mujina's resorted to drinking, and Onija got arrested for attempting to steal a police officer's gun to kill people.
* Chise decides to return to middle school, though she doesn't make it as far as the gate. What's worse is that Knight and The 2nd approach her and inform her that they intend to leave this world, and they'll be taking Goldburn with them, resulting in her running away in an angry outburst.
** For Chise, this especially hurts. As we saw in Episode 9, she was considered an outcast at school, and because she wasn't really a pilot, the same can be said with the Dynazenon crew as well. Now that the fight is seemingly over, Koyomi is now looking for a job and Goldburn is leaving, she feels like she's being left behind ''again''.
* When Mujina approaches Koyomi at a photobooth, she straight up says she despises him. While her saddened expression may imply there's something going on in her mind, it hurts nonetheless knowing that Koyomi is finally getting his life together while she's left with basically nothing.
* Gauma's story with the Princess can be seen as this. The two were so close and vowed to spend their future together, to the point where she ended her own life just to be with Gauma after he died 5,000 years ago. However, the only people who revived were the Kaiju Users, so their promise ended up being for naught.
* Yume is also going through what the Eugenicists are, too. Without Dynazenon and the Kaiju, she worries that the times she spent with everyone is over as well and that they won't see each other again.
* [[spoiler:By the end of the episode, we learn that Gauma's ''' ''dying.'' ''' Because he abandoned his connection to the Kaiju, his revival is only temporary, and his body has slowly been decaying. Though he only learned this now because of the pain he's been feeling this episode, he deliberately held off telling anyone.]]

* At the most inopportune time, a Kaiju showed up to fight Gauma, Koyomi, and Gridknight. Unfortunately, Yomogi decides to prioritize the Kaiju and takes off, leaving Yume behind. When Gauma gets word of this, [[WhatTheHellHero he admonishes Yomogi for leaving her when she's emotionally vulnerable]], making the latter realize how badly he screwed up.
* As Chise finds Yume on a roof, she refuses to tell the former what's happening, believing it has nothing to do with her, nor does anything good come from fighting. This results in Chise tearing into her because unlike Yume, she's been trying to fit in with the team despite not being able to do anything.
** When Yomogi returns for Yume, Chise tells her that the fact that she has someone to come for her is the "good" coming from fighting and that she has no idea what else she has.

* We finally get a glimpse into Chise's personal trauma, and it ''hurts''. It is revealed that she was an outcast in middle school, being kept isolated and alone from her fellow classmates. Even with Gauma in the others, none of these feelings have subsided and because she's not a pilot, she feels even more left out.
