As the story ends, anyone on the ship has gone hopelessly insane, while the Duke is just stuck at sea as everyone slowly dies.

Their final moments are seen in full display, either getting callously murdered via gunshot[[note]]Charlie[[/note]] or knifed to the gut[[note]]Joe[[/note]]. Or, if they kill their attacker, you watch them clutch their chests and have heart attacks, dying in abject fear.
* In general, coming across the soldier's fear struck corpses is pretty awful for them.
