* Chapter 79: Phos' suffering hits absolute [[JustForPun rock-bottom]] as they, after being shattered for 220 years, finally get reassembled, only to learn that nobody, ''nobody'', sans Adamant who reassembled them, no longer have even the slightest shrapnel of memory left about the gem, making them the UnPerson of the Lustrous. At this point, Phos has become so [[DespairEventHorizon broken]], figuratively and literally, that they can only beg Adamant to pray just to end Phos' suffering at that point, all while crying gold in the process. And when Sensei can't, for the first time in the series, Phos snaps and forces their hand on their former mentor.

** Arguably what makes it even worse is that each and every person who had loved Phos ultimately still ''used'' Phos for their own selfish ends as well after becoming Lunarians. None of them ever considered what would become of the godling after they had all ceased to exist. In the end, Phos was simply a tool.

None Aside from Euclase, who wanted to do something for Phos while they were stuck on Earth, none of them ever considered what would become of the godling after they had all ceased to exist. In the end, Phos was simply a tool.

** The sad part of it all is that Phos ''was'' loved by many Gems, but in a hopeless younger sibling way. Sensei cared for Phos as he did all Gems, Rutile was always one to check on them, the first Morganite had playful squabbles with them, and Cinnabar always thought about Phos whenever they were alone, while the rest were only a little annoyed or neutral at worst. And after all the events of the series, Phos can never get that love back.

* Phos finally achieves the goal they were molded into performing--blessing the Lunarians and making them pass on--but by the time they do this they immediately realize that they are now truly alone in the world. Not even knowing that sentient life still exists makes it better, as said sentient life shows just how selfish and self centered Phos' motivations were by telling the former Gem it doesn't need any help and is satisfied as it is and meeting Phos properly; while Phos realizes that all they've ever done wasn't for the good of everybody, but to validate their need to be loved by everyone.

*** Heck, Cinnabar's battle in general. The fact that Phos is mockingly telling Cinnabar that they're an unlovable tool for the Lustrous hurts, not only because Cinnabar casually admits it could be true but because Phos is talking about themself just as much as they're talking about Cinnabar.

** If you pay close attention, some of the Gems whose anxieties led them to go to the Moon never quite have their problems resolved. Yellow does reunite with their old teammates, but their mind is so frazzled and they themselves so deeply traumatized that they can never fully enjoy it (since that trauma manifests as senility). Diamond goes to tme Moon to get away from Bort, but now that they're reunited Bort is more annoyed than anything with Diamond. Padparascha and Rutile are alive together and close (since the former is sleeping on the roof of Rutile's clinic), but Rutile's comment to one of their clients implies that pads is still listless.

Ghost was the one who told the others about Lapis being unable to revive

* The series returned from hiatus in June 2022, and the latest chapter delivers in spades. To start, one of the transformed gems comments about how the jam cookies “sparkle,” and it “reminds them of something.” The fate of Ghost is unknown, since they were more of a ‘shell’ that contained Cairngorm, and not a full-fledged gem. Also, it is revealed that the machine was unable to revive Lapis Lazuli due to lacking their head. These are but minor details, however, and the larger message of the chapter is that none of the former gems show much, if any, gratitude. The best to hope for is a feeble display of guilt from Euclase, which feels shallow and of questionable sincerity. Cinnabar, who is finally able to touch living things without the risk of them dying and has found a job they enjoy on the Moon, is similarly stuck feeling wistful about Earth and conflicted because their joy over their new life on the Moon has begun to shadow over any guilt they might feel about Phos.

Chapter 97: Adamant's meeting with his "mother", Professor Ayumu, reveals a lot.
** Almost every Gem's appearance was inspired by Ayumu, from her hair to the way she laughs.
** We see that Professor Ayumu and her dog are the only living things around. When Adamant asks about her team's wherabouts, all she says is that they "weren't needed anymore".
** Professor Ayumu is barely being held together, using their own blood as a beverage. Same goes for their mental state, with them apologizing for what humans have done to their world. The only accomplishment Ayumu can say she's proud of is Adamant's creation. The way she casually watches as the meteorites strike the earth shows just how profoundly lonely she is and how deeply disappointed she is with humanity in general.

** Bort and Dia also smash each other to pieces. It turns out to be a really quick and one-sided battle as Bort doesn't put much of a fight against Dia and notes that the latter changed, letting each other's weapons speak for themselves. Euclase can only watch in despair as Phos emotionlessly laughs at the sight.

*** Jade managed to put up a fight against Phos, but eventually the latter gets the upper hand by slamming the former against a pillar. Jade can only apologize that they were never be able to understand Phos before expiring.

* Ghost Quartz sacrificing themself in order to protect Phos and buy the group a bit of time before reinforcements come in. The conversation they have with their "inner" Gem is rather bittersweet, ending with Ghost asking the other to continue protecting Phos from then on. The frantic tone the newly emerged Cairngorm has when they realize Ghost isn't there anymore really cements the scene.
