* Ein being left behind while they go after Pierrot; his sad whimper says it all.
* Despite being an AxCrazy maniac, one can't help but feel bad for Pierrot when he regresses to his childlike state.
-->Pierrot: It hurts, mommy...

* Ana encouraging Julia to take charge of her life only encouraged her to take charge of the Syndicate, years of being under Vicious' thumb having so hardened her personality that she kills Spike when he refuses to go along with her scheme, because he's a symbol of her naïve past. Spike in turn has been LovingAShadow as the innocent Julia he fell in LoveAtFirstSight with has long since died.

* Julia and Vicious's abusive relationship. Julia is constantly on edge and terrified of him, and he's always overbearing, insecure, and flat-out violent to her.

* Spike's efforts to get Katelina to safety end in failure when, despite Spike's offer to help get her somewhere safe, she opts to die by Asimov's side, gunned down by ISSP gunships.

* Jet's attempt to be part of his daughter, Kimmie's birthday doesn't go well. He isn't able to get his hands on a Walking Sally doll for her, and when he instead opts to gift her Ein, his ex-wife Alyssa bluntly tells him that she can't afford the taxes on a dog and rejects it.
--> Alyssa: She doesn't deserve to fall in love with something she can't keep!
* Chalmers, Alyssa's new husband, shows up and defensively puts an arm around her just to rub it in Jet's face.

* Spike, like in the original show, falls from a window. Unlike the original, he is not thrown out by someone he has a bad and antagonistic history with, Vicious, but rather shot out by someone he had a romantic relationship with, Julia. As he falls, the melancholic piano and choir piece "Green Bird" plays.
** Worse, Spike's expression isn't one of worn out depression, it's one of betrayal and shock. And on his way down, he screams as his life flashes before his eyes.
* Faye, who now has a lead on something that may lead her to her past, leaves the Bebop to chase it down. While she parts with some encouraging words to Jet, it's clear that neither of them really want to split, but have to. Jet only makes eye contact once throughout the whole scene.
* Jet's daughter, Kimmie, is picked up by his ex-wife and Chalmers. As a huge kick to the gut, Kimmie refers to Chalmers as her father, not Jet, who has just gone through hell and gotten a severe injury to his leg to get her to safety. None of Jet's former family members seem to even pay him any mind as they leave.
* Spike meets Jet at the dock where the Bebop is parked and is told that that if Jet ever sees him again, he'll kill him. Spike doesn't say a word through the whole exchange as the Bebop leaves.
* Lastly, Spike is seen Drowning His Sorrows and collapsing in an alleyway. The one thing that stops this episode from being a complete and utter DownerEnding is that Ed shows up with a SequelHook. That doesn't help soften the blow of Spike just completely and utterly destroyed, though.
