* Brian going to cry on the grave of his dead mother after discovering his cruel stepfather has killed his kitten. It's one of the few non-humorous moments in the book and it's honestly heartbreaking. (The event does lead to his being HappilyAdopted by Margaret though, so it worked out better for both of them.)
