* TimeLimitBoss: Any of the non-Subspace Emissary mode bosses, such as Master Hand, have the standard 5-minute time limit that the rest of the stages have. Special mention goes to [[spoiler:Master Core]], as the fight has the standard 5-minute time limit like normal (with 3 minutes being added upon reaching Master Fortress), but upon reaching its final form, the time limit actually ''freezes''. However, this final form has a ''second'', invisible time limit; while the final form has seemingly no attacks, take too long to defeat it, and it rises up and attempts to OneHitKO you using screen-wide shockwaves in a similar vein to Tabuu's Off Waves. You can, however, dodge all the shockwaves with skillful timing, at which point it simply self-destructs.

* SinglePlayerGauntlet: Called [=1P Game=] in the first game and Classic Mode in all subsequent entries. Each keeps the same basic concept, but plays around with the formula differently. ''64'' has a fixed sequence, ''Melee'' randomizes the fights but keeps the types in the same place (predefined teams will always be the second match, etc.), ''Brawl'' groups the fights by series, ''for [=3DS=]'' gives a series of branching paths, ''for Wii U'' has a much greater focus on free-for-alls, and ''Ultimate'' gives predefined paths for each character related to either their respective stories or thematic elements.

* YouDontLookLikeYou: Several characters don't quite look like they do in Smash compared to their home games.
** Mario in ''Melee'' and ''Brawl'' has a much darker overalls and shoes color, along with his ''Melee'' design giving him a much tanner skin complexion.
** Luigi has a similar change in design from his home games. In ''Brawl'', his hat and shirt are a much desaturated shade of green, and his pants legs are rolled up slightly.
** In each of his Smash appearances, Captain Falcon's model is original. His design in ''64'' and ''Melee'' is from F-Zero X, but his suit is purple and later a dark gray-blue color (a color which is more fitting for Zoda). His design in ''Brawl'' onwards is unique to Smash Bros, with his scarf hanging out, him wearing two differently designed pauldrons, and the addition of white-yellow kneepads.
** Despite his source games giving him either a yellow or orange body color, Bowser in the Smash Bros. games has a golden-brown color (Melee), and later in ''Brawl'' and ''Ultimate'', a light-brown body, along with his head and shell being a darker and more subdued green color, making Bowser look rather ugly. ''Smash 4'' made him look close to the ''Mario'' games.
** Zelda's outfit in ''Melee'' is entirely shades of pink, despite her dress in ''Ocarina of Time'' giving her gown and gloves a white-pink color, and her bodice an orchid-purple color.
** Both Peach and Daisy in the ''Mario'' games have simple looking dresses, but starting with ''Brawl'', Peach's dress has much more detail on it, the same with Daisy in ''Ultimate''.
** Marth's design in ''Melee'' is taken from ''Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem'', but his hair, cape, and boots are a much darker shade of blue, along with the rims of his shoulder pads being silver instead of geolden-yellow.
** Roy may have debuted in ''Melee'' before ''The Binding Blade'', but his design is still inaccurate. His scarf is purple in Melee instead of medium blue, and his hair is auburn-brown instead of its normal orange. His armor also has some unique designs on it not seen in The Binding Blade.
** Link in ''The Wind Waker'' has a vivid, cartoonish look, but ''Brawl'' gives him a very realistic and gritty design, which contrasts the source material. Smash 4 at least makes him more cartoony in his design.
** Ken's karate gi in the ''Street Fighter'' games is normally orange-red, and his hair is naturally blonde, but ''Ultimate'' changes them to be a muted burnt orange color, and his hair is a dirty blonde color. Even Smash 4 gave his trophy model the correct color scheme.
