* One of the daycare kids looks just like an older Boo from WesternAnimation/MonstersInc. The first time we see her, she's playing with a blue cat and a sunflower, and says "Boo! No no no! What's the matter?" She's reenacting the scene from WesternAnimation/MonstersInc where Sulley accidentally scared her.

* At one point, Lotso says "[[Film/TheTenCommandments Where's your kid NOW, sheriff?]]"

* Rex's roars in the opening are standard ''Film/JurassicPark'' [[TyrannosaurusRex T-Rex]] roars.

* [[spoiler: [[TheDogBitesBack Big Baby throwing Lotso into the Dumpster]] ]] is very similar to Darth Vader killing the Emperor in ''Film/ReturnOfTheJedi''.

* Sparks is a shout-out to the sparking ''Franchise/{{Transformers}}'' toys released in 1987-88. The gimmick was reportedly abandoned after a Barbie toy with a similar gimmick [[NotMakingThisUpDisclaimer set a child's underwear on fire]], only to reappear in 2014 as part of the ''[[Film/TransformersAgeOfExtinction Age of Extinction]]'' toyline.

* Chatter Telephone's voice and [[MysteriousInformant role]] in his interactions with Woody sounds a lot like [[Film/AllThePresidentsMen Deep Throat]].

* Possibly unintentional, but Lotso's backstory is that [[Literature/TheGreatGatsby he loved a girl named Daisy, was separated from her, and returned to find he had been replaced]].
