* One of the unlockable attacks is a Tetsuzankou, a shoulder check commonly used by Akira in VideoGame/VirtuaFighter: if you finish a verse with a Pure Platinum rank and use it as the final attack, Bayonetta will quote Akira's [[CatchPhrase Catch]] [[YearsTooEarly Phrase]] in Japanese.

** One of the demonic beasts Bayonetta can summon is a reference to Phantom from ''Devil May Cry''. Both happen to be giant demonic spiders filled with lava. Oddly enough, it's portrayed in almost the opposite way; this demon is one of only ''two'' demons referred to positively. *** If you want to get really hardcore on this reference, Pillow Talk hosts a charge attack that will extend the blade and power, and hosts a cool but lengthy secret special attack that has Bayonetta perform a clockwise brandish before slicing downwards, unleashing a beam of energy when fully charged. Older fans will realize that these moves and even the weapon itself are brought over from the repertoire of Hayato Kanzaki of Star Gladiator fame. More fun references, Mahavirocana, the demon that inhabits Pillow Talk, is the king of Asura in Hinduism, and Hayato's blade extending move is called Asura, and his downwards energy wave slash is called Engetsu, meaning Full Moon. Even in Okami, Waka unsheathes Pillow Talk in the same fashion as Hayato. Someone down at Platinum must be very proud of Star Gladiator in his resume, and for good reason too, the game was Capcom's first foray into the 3D genre.
*** The Golem boss in Paradiso is basically an upgraded version of Yami, endboss of Okami.
** Back in the SMS days, the Sega-sponsored anime [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zillion_%28anime%29 Zillion]] was popular enough to spawn two video games, laser tag merchandise, and more. And so we have the Bazillions.
** The symbol on Bayonetta's chest, when combined with the crescent-moon shape cut out of her catsuit, forms the symbol of the Oboro clan from the PS2 Shinobi game.
** One of the BonusBoss of the games attacks after you get his health halfway down is a [[StreetFighter Akuma's Shun Goku Satsu]], complete with a blank screen and multiple hits shown. *** The music for that chapter is a remixed version of the Space Harrier theme. Also the music for the motorcycle portion of Chapter 8 is a remixed version of the theme from ''AfterBurner'', another classic Sega game. In both cases you can change the soundtrack to the original retro versions by holding down L1 and L2 (for PS3) or LB and LT (for 360) during the preceding cut scenes.

There's ''quite'' a few here. They're mostly to Kamiya's previous games and other Sega series, although you'll also see a few pop references here and there. Visual, lines, weapons, moves and trophies/achievements.
** To give an idea: [[DevilMayCry Antonio Redgrave]], [[ApocalypseNow Lt. Col. Kilgore]], Bayonetta shouting [[ViewtifulJoe "Dancin' a-go-go baby!"]], and Luka's facial markings at one point look quite similar to [[{{Okami}} Ammy's]].
** Perhaps an Expy, but consider Vigrid. Well-armed security forces, people openly walk around in holy dress...Vatican City with another name? (And possibly transplanted to France...)
*** Or Gaudi's dream city.
** Luka's supposed past flings have some... Familiar names: [[ResidentEvil2 Claire]], [[DevilMayCry Trish]], [[ViewtifulJoe Silvia]], and [[{{Okami}} ...Ammy]]. [[StealthPun "You don't want to piss her off!"]] [[DontExplainTheJoke (in other words, she's a bitch)]]
** Sega has had a long relationship with [[NeonGenesisEvangelion Evangelion]]. If they're making a game with angels as the badguys they might as well reference it.
*** The context when the song [[EndofEvangelion Fly Me to the Moon]] is playing...
*** The swarming [[{{Mooks}} Affinities]] strongly resemble the [[http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/3785/angelse.jpg mass production Evas]].
*** Naming a song "Angel Attack."
*** This probably means less than the others, but the ''Evangelion'' and ''Bayonetta'' soundtracks have similar naming schemes for the tracks: [letter]-[number] [title] (i.e. "A-1 Rei I" in the former and "EV01 Beginning" in the latter).
** Visiting Rodin in his bar on one occasion will prompt him to ask Bayonetta, "Hey, check this out. [[ResidentEvil4 Whadya buyin'?]]", after which he muses to himself, "Heh. Heard that in a game once." Also "If you brings me enough of these {{Halo}}s maybe I can fly to space. I always wanted to be [[ASpaceMarineIsYou a bald space marine]]."
*** He also says that, no matter how much she asks, he's not [[MadWorld strapping a chainsaw to Bayonetta's arm]].
** "Welcome to ''my'' FantasyZone! [[VideoGame/SpaceHarrier Get ready!]]"
*** That chapter's game play is ripped straight from Space Harrier, bosses and all.
*** And the font for the display in the motorbike section control instructions? Straight out of ''Hang-On'', Sega's 1985 motorbike-based classic.
** In one of the early scenes where Bayonetta gets a ride from Enzo, the radio in Enzo's car is playing "Magical Sound Shower", one of the music tracks from the original ''Outrun''.
** Bayonetta's Panther form resembles a black and gold [[{{Okami}} Amaterasu]], even causing black roses to sprout behind her as she runs.
** At the beginning of the game, Bayonetta and Enzo are conducting the funeral of a guy named "[[SonicTheHedgehog Eggman]]" and the angel Halos which comprise the game's currency seem awfully familiar.
*** The 'Eggman' line [[http://platinumgames.com/2010/04/14/platinum-twilight-and-bayonetta-developer-commentary/ was explained by Kamiya]] thus:
-->'''Kamiya''': In this part, I had just randomly decided to use the word "Eggman". Then I found out it was the name of a character [[SonicTheHedgehog in another famous game.]] I figured if the fans get a kick out of it, [[ThrowItIn then it is fine to leave it as it is.]]
It is described as curious, rare, and willing to offer treasures or rare knowledge to those who find it, as opposed to the others which are for the most part described as brutal monstrosities.
*** Games Radar notes all these, and more (such as a subtle one to ''GodOfWar'') [[http://www.gamesradar.com/f/30-hidden-references-in-bayonetta/a-2010011493658559064 here]].
** [[ChristopherWalken "I've got a fever and the only cure is more dead angels."]]
** If you beat the game on its hardest setting, you unlock a weapon called Pillow Talk, which is basically a green, lightsaber-ish sword, and was taken straight out of ''Okami'' (including the name), in which it was wielded by Waka during both battles against him.
** One of the {{Bonus Boss}} of the games attacks after you get his health halfway down is a [[StreetFighter Akuma's Shun Goku Satsu]], complete with a blank screen and multiple hits shown. It drops your health down by [[NintendoHard 99% when you have full health, but kills instantly when you have less than 50% health left]]. [[PrecisionFStrike Fuck.]]
** A rather well hidden one to ChappellesShow involves Jeanne: [[http://www.entertonement.com/clips/dzrybkytmn--It%27s-a-celebration-bitchesChappelle%27s-Show-Dave-Chappelle-Chappelle%27s-Show-Season-2-Chappelle%27s-Show-2x18-Ep-204- "It's a celebration bitches!"]] (when you get a Pure Platinum trophy with Jeanne)
** Come on, Enzo?! Shares the same name with a man whose never appeared in the Devil May Cry games.
** [[DevilMayCry "Flock off, feather face."]] Bayonetta's delivery is possibly even [[{{Narm}} narmier]] than Dante's.
** And isn't even [[UpToEleven all of them]]. To put it lightly, [[http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps3/946345-bayonetta/faqs/58989 there is a]] [[GameFaqs FAQ]] dedicated to the amount of [[ShoutOut shout outs]] in this game, and it ''STILL'' didn't cover all of them.
