* While it is based on the main games, ''PokemonSpecial'' has homages to other Pokemon games. In the Yellow arc, Blue has a microphone that can send messages through bubbles. Pika has to babysit a Caterpie and feed it flowers when it changes color getting hungry. Both are shout outs to the Hey You Pikachu game. Another is in the Emerald arc, where Todd is hired to take photos. The silouette of the place he has to go is clearly Pokemon Island from PokemonSnap.

* Chapter 13 of the ''MaisonIkkoku'' manga has a shout-out, at least in the English translation by Viz. Soichiro (the dog) falls asleep on a raft on the beach, which gets caught by a wave and washed out to sea. Kyoko Otonashi, Shun Mitaka, and Yusaku Godai are in a boat and hear him barking, so they retrieve him from the raft and bring him back to shore in their boat. Mitaka [[spoiler:has a phobia of dogs]], so he's acting like he's feeling sick by the time he gets back to shore. Except for Godai, none of the Ikkoku residents [[spoiler:know about Mitaka's phobia]], so they wonder why Mitaka is acting that way. Godai teases Mitaka by saying something which the English translation renders as: "Maybe it's 'a salty dog' that makes you a whiter shade of pale!" The band Procol Harum has a song titled "A Salty Dog" (also an album) and another titled "A Whiter Shade of Pale". What's more, the original title of the chapter, "ソルティー・ドッグ" ("sorutii doggu"), became "A Salty Dog", making it into a shout-out also.

* Episode 12 of ''DirtyPair'' has a shout out to the short story / novel ''Flowers for Algernon''. It's also a reference to Pinky and the Brain. [[spoiler:The episode involves two mice, named Chichi and [[{{MeaningfulName}} Algernon]], having their intelligence increased by the 3WA's R&D section, with the intention that they direct the other mice in the building to act as a security system for the 3WA building. Instead, they attempt to take over the building and drive out the humans. To prevent this, Chichi eventually gets [[{{FlowersForAlgernon}} reverted to being a normal mouse]], causing Algernon to [[{{DrivenToSuicide}} jump out of a window]].]]
** Definitely Algernon, considering it was made in the mid 1980s there's no way they could have reffed ''Pinky and the Brain'' short of a time machine.

** The vampires in the ''MahouSenseiNegima'' universe are called Shinso/True Ancestors, a reference to ''{{Tsukihime}}''.

* ''MahouSenseiNegima'' has a number of shoutouts to Ken Akamatsu's previous works. The Shinmei Ryu sword school from ''LoveHina'' exists in both, and Setsuna's origin {{flashback}} in the manga shows her from a distance being escorted by two women who are probably the Aoyama sisters from ''Love Hina''. Also, the MadScientist creator of the RobotGirl comments on how they outsourced for the programming code of her AI, and one of the programmers was from Akamatsu's first manga, ''AI Love You'', explaining how it is that Chachamaru [[{{Tinman}} has emotions.]] The character Mei has the same given name and character design as Naru's half-sister from Love Hina. While in the anime she had the same family name as Naru, the manga never stated, as she was only in one chapter, hinting that the two may be the same character.
** It really veers into ContinuityOverlap at some points, especially with ''LoveHina'', as the whole Shinmeiryu sword school crossed over. The most recent chapter even explicitly mentions both Motoko's family, and a specific exorcism technique has plot relevance in both ''LoveHina'' and ''Negima''.
** The TournamentArc has a lot of cameos from fighting game characters in the background crowds.
** The Headmaster also specifically note that the power of TheWorldTree will not grant certain wishes, such as the wish for a girl's pair of panties. As he explains this, a silhouette of [[DragonBall Oolong]] is clearly visible.

* This Troper honestly isn't sure if it's a ShoutOut or a [[{{Ptitlelwo4ixfv9qsp}} Name's The Same]], but ''{{Minami-ke}}'' has ''three'' characters sharing names with characters in the manga ''HourouMusuko'': Shuuichi, Yoshino, and Makoto. This Troper would think it's a Name's The Same were it not for the fact that [[{{Crossdresser}} Crossdressing]] is a major part of ''Hourou Musuko's'' plot with all three shared-name characters doing it. ''Hourou Musuko's'' Makoto even goes by "Mako-chan."

* When SaintSeiya was adapted to anime, Shun and Ikki got an AdaptationDyeJob that may remind you of a [[SuperMarioBros. famous pair of brothers]]. To be specific, Shun's color scheme is reminiscent of Luigi's 8-bit sprite, while Ikki's is reminiscent of Mario's back in the mid 80s. Looking at Luigi's portrayal [[HilariousInHindsight nowadays]]...

* ''InitialD'' almost ALWAYS gets a ShoutOut in a parody series. There's the AE86 appearing in SchoolRumble, the parody race in LuckyStar, even a badly drawn picture on the chalkboard in PaniPoniDash...
