"Gold" is a fan nickname, and the NPC is explicitly named Ethan.

** The first occasion with the first character takes place when the player reaches the day care couple for the first time and are greeted by either Gold/Ethan or Lyra (depending on player gender) after a brief conversation, their grandfather will comment about them having a crush on the player character. Naturally they'll force their grandparents to change the topic then run out in embarrassment.
** The tease with the second character occurs when trying to infiltrate Team Rocket's radio tower in disguise only for Silver (the rival) to run in and forcefully strip the player character. Granted he's only trying to remove the Rocket uniform since he despises the organization and can't see his rival among their ranks, still this scene alone has managed to generate hundreds of Silver/Lyra and Silver/Gold drawings. He also reacts rather vehemently to the idea of Lance teaming up with the player in a double battle, insisting on being the one to fight by their side in a way less like rivals and more akin to a jealous boyfriend.

** Though Marnie is the In-Between rival of the NiceMeanAndInBetween trio with Hop (Nice) and Bede (Mean), she has shown low-key interest towards Victor/Gloria throughout the game. While the player character naturally gets a lot of interaction with Hop due to virtue of being childhood friends, there is a post-game scene in which the player character can discover Marnie in a room in the Budew Drop Inn at Motostoke practicing her smiles, to which she gets embarrassed upon being discovered. And as of the recent Crown Tundra DLC with the Galarian Star Tournament, the interactions she has upon choosing her as your tag partner are significantly more friendly, bordering on intimate as she explicitly declares her trust in the player and giving a sweet small smile towards the player upon winning the tournament together. Media outside of the core games has put particular focus on her and Gloria, namely in Masters, where they have several dialogues with or about each other that can be read romantically, the EX forms of their summer outfits are palette swaps of each other, and in the "Sweet Shenanigans" Story Event, Gloria is one of the people she makes Palentine's Day chocolates for, the other being her brother.

The point seems to be driven home by the nearby Ball Guy who asks if "love is in the air" before giving them a Love Ball. Foe Yay has been cut.

** N's dialogue toward the player can be taken as very ship-teasing as well, if in a StalkerWithACrush way. [[spoiler:This includes his Ferris Wheel Date Moment. This is thrown out the window at the end when N states that he by this late point "was starting to like you", either ShipSinking or a new start of more direct Ship Tease. Either way, by this point we've learned N probably isn't mental-emotionally mature enough for a serious relationship anyway.]]

** Notwithstanding the OneTrueThreesome, there's a fair bit of evidence that Diamond has a crush on Platinum, what with him being absolutely captivated by her the moment he first saw her, and even disclosing a secret to her which he never told his best friend Pearl.
