* CerebusSyndrome: The first two seasons are whacky and lighthearted (to fault in the case of Season 2) with things getting slightly more serious in Season 3. By the last two seasons, the show was killing characters and showing the darker sides of the main cast.

* CheckPlease: Subverted in "Quest for the Nintendo Wii". When Brock's blind date hooks up with an ex on their restaurant table, intead of fleeing, he queitly sits and finishes his meal.
* ChekhovsGunman: Several characters are introduced slowly in the series before joining the main cast.

** Kirk and Joseph spent almost every waking second with each other.

* GirlNextDoor: Cathy Matthews, until later seasons revealed she was more flawed then people thought.

** While certain pairings (Will/Brian; Reicther/Brock; Casey/Brock) frequently end up in the same class, never once has the entire main cast end up in the same class. The closest they ever got was Senior Year when Brian, Ellen, Reicther, and Casey ended up in the same chemistry class.
** Criteria numbers 2 & 3 are more true for scenes in the lunchroom where things get weird and lively. However most scenes in classrooms are usually devoid of any whackness, often showing the Main cast being bored out of their minds.
