** Type 2. None of the four main guys are particularly bad looking, but Leonard, played by Johnny Galecki, is the most prominent example. Are we really supposed to believe [[http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3230243328/nm0301959 this guy]] is a nerd who has trouble with the ladies?
*** To its credit, the show tries to make this halfway plausible - Leonard has several unsettling mannerisms around women, such as continually twisting his fingers and staring at them whilst talking.
*** That's also not what Leonard looks like, that's what his actor looks like when made up for a glamour shot. Leonard is babyfacedly clean-shaven, wears unstylish glasses, has a cheap haircut, and dresses in tattered hoodies that don't quite fit right. It's sort of like comparing strong, confident, wearing-a-bodysuit-that-shows-off-his-muscles Superman to slouching, quiet, meek, suit-wearing Clark Kent.
