** "The Holographic Excitation" had Penny admit to Bernadette and Amy that she really did not understand what Leonard does as an experimental physicist. After some prodding she surprised him at work and asked to see some of his experiments. When he gave her a short presentation musing on a theory of the universe she was awestruck and said "I just forgot how smart you are." They ended up fooling around in his lab and apparently repeated the pattern of science project/sex over the next few days.

** Amy figured that she could best assimilate herself as a romantic interest to Sheldon by influencing him with all the things that he loves. Thus they have a romantic evening with music from SuperMarioBrothers, Strawberry Nesquik and [[ContinuityNod spaghetti with hot dogs cut up in it]]. Sheldon surprised himself with how well it was working, and the subplot ended with Amy dressed up as [[StarTrekTheOriginalSeries Nurse Chapel]] and "playing doctor" with Sheldon StarTrek-style.

*** To its credit, the show tries to make this halfway plausible - Leonard has several unsettling mannerisms around women, such as continually twisting his fingers and staring at them whilst talking.
*** That's also not what Leonard looks like, that's what his actor looks like when made up for a glamour shot. Leonard is babyfacedly clean-shaven, wears unstylish glasses, has a cheap haircut, and dresses in tattered hoodies that don't quite fit right. It's sort of like comparing strong, confident, wearing-a-bodysuit-that-shows-off-his-muscles Superman to slouching, quiet, meek, suit-wearing Clark Kent.
