* ArtisticLicenseMilitary: In "Boot It Up". at Major Dance's Boot Camp at least a couple obvious errors. While I doubt Major Dance is a real former Major in the Army, but in what world do you call a female officer "Sir?" I understand their ''Never leave a man behind'' motto, even though they're not men, or women, but girls. But calling a woman sir, is just as bad as calling Creator/RLeeErmey ma'am, (who is the TropeCodifier [[Film/FullMetalJacket of]] DrillSergeantNasty and a one RealLife too, by the way). It just borders on dumb and discourteous to military customs. "Ma'am yes ma'am" probably [[RuleOfCool sounded too strange or lame]], while calling her sir makes her seem like a badass, to them.
** Some women do prefer being called sir for various reasons.
** Also the training difficulty is insane for girls their age. It may be justified in that it is a punishment Boot camp and not Basic Training for entry into the armed forces, but still.

* AbsenteeActor: Everybody in the main cast misses several episodes, with two exceptions (guess who they are).

* DisproportionateRetribution: In ''Hot Mess It Up'', on Rocky and Cece’s new web show, Cece gives bad advice to a boy who couldn’t get a date for his school dance, telling he change schools and start over, leaving him separated for his twin sister, who sends them an e-mail for the bad advice. Then Rocky believes it is Gunther and Tinka, and makes Cece be his date for the school for it. However, Rocky goes too far by enjoying Cece’s humiliation and suffering, even helps publicly humiliate her. While did Cece need to be punished for giving bad advice to someone, it was by much on Rocky’s to embarrass Cece in front of everyone at school, [[spoiler:especially when it was revealed to Gunther and Tinka’s whom were being separated because of Cece’s bad advice not them. At the end of the episode, Cece is rightfully furious at Rocky for publicly humiliating her.]]

* LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters: The first Disney KidCom to have more than six main characters (at least until Kenton Duty left).

* HeterosexualLifePartners[=/=]RomanticTwoGirlFriendship: [=CeCe=] and Rocky, who do absolutely everything together, and have the same hopes and dreams. Reinforced by Rocky's refusal to be on the show if [=CeCe=] can't be on.

* RomanticTwoGirlFriendship: Implied between [=CeCe=] and Rocky, especially in "Add It Up" and "Break It Up".

* AccidentalPublicConfession: Rocky innocently announces that she kissed Logan (on the cheek) when she overhears Flynn objecting that Georgea and Jeremy can't marry Jeremy "because of the kiss", thinking that Flynn knows about her and Logan.
* AccidentalProposal: In "Review It Up", [=CeCe=] and Rocky invite a reviewer, along with his girlfriend and her family, to Crusty's Pizza where they put on a flash mob in an attempt to impress the reviewer so that he would stop trashtaking ''Shake It Up: Chicago''. After their performance, the reviewer's girlfriend finds in her pizza the friendship ring Deuce meant to give to Dina on their annivesary and thinks the reviewer is proposing to her and excitedly says yes. They accidentally become engaged.
* AdorablyPrecociousChild: Flynn, who handwaves that he's "the only ressponsible person around here", and even got a model to like him, saying he's adorable, and Henry.

* AmbiguouslyBrown: Rocky and Ty (both Zendaya and Roshon Fegan are mixed-race), at least until "Heat It Up". Their mother is shown to be black and their father appears to be mixed race.

** Like Bella and Zendaya, Caroline Sunshine (Tinka) has a song that has been played during a dance number (specifically during the opening ''Shake It Up Chicago'' segment in "Embarass It Up") but at least this one could be a "pass" as her singing voice isn't exactly identifiable as Tinka's.

* DefyingTheCensors: In "Give It Up", Mrs. Loccasio mentions that she used to dance as a Vegas showgirl ''[[YouCanLeaveYourHatOn in her birthday suit]]''.

* FiremenAreHot: Georgea's relationship with Jeremy qualifies just as much.

* NeverMyFault: [=CeCe=] selfishly causes ger mother and Jeremy to break up in "Merry Merry It Up" and insists throughout the episode that she has nothing to do with the breakup, repeatedly saying "SHE BROKE UP WITH HIM!!!!". It wasn't until she had {{Yet Another Christmas Carol}} experience that she finally realizes her mistake and gets them back together.

*** Of course they aren't the same people. Subverted is what it would be, especially since Rocky showed disinterest in Duece when it was mentioned in present day.

* TakeThat: Against Child Beauty Pagents.

* TalentContest: Averted - odd for a show that focuses so much on singing and dancing, there's yet to be an actual episode that truly follows the spirit of the trope (the closest two is in "Auction It Up", but that was almost strictly an endurance test, and the Beauty Pagent episode, though that was a straight-up beauty pagent). However, the ''Make Your Mark'' SpinOff competition certainly counts as a RealLife example.

* TeacherParentRomance: Georgea goes on a date with [=CeCe=]'s gym teacher, Coach Lessor. [=CeCe=] is disgusted by this at first, but then sees it as a saving grace when Lessor considers letting [=CeCe=] off the hook for faking an injury earlier in the episode. It ends up backfiring, however, when the date ends very badly making Lessor even harsher on [=CeCe=] than before.

* UnderTheMistletoe: Deuce bribes Deuce into letting her into his family's caroling band with a kiss under a makeshift mistletoe (actually a peice of parsely).
** Georgea and Jeremy get back together in "Merry Merry It Up" and kiss pretending that the crack on the celing is mistletoe.
* UnlimitedWardrobe: Especially noticable with [=CeCe=] and Rocky and Tinka and Gunther, due to their wacky fashions, though other characters may qualify. {{Justified|Trope}} though, as that's what they spend their ''Shake It Up Chicago'' money on.
* UnusualEuphemism: In "I Do It Up", Rocky and Logan meet at Crusty's to discuss their kiss from the previous episode and Rocky suggests substituing the word "kiss" for "puppy".

* WhyWasteAWedding: This happened in "I Do It Up", when Georgia and Jeremy decided to canceled their wedding as he wanted to have second thoughts aboutit, [[spoiler: though her ex-husband J.J. insisted that should get back together.]]

* Georgia Jones (Anita Barone): [=CeCe=] and Flynn's single mother, who serves as a FairCop.

* Martin "Deuce" Martinez (Adam Irigoyen): [=CeCe=] and Rocky's long-time friend who is known for his "connections" and his questionable schemes to make a buck.

** Rocky's dad has gone overseas, joining Doctors Without Borders.
*** Potentially starting with "Apply It Up" it's now implied that Rocky's dad is staying with the family again.

* PlayingCyrano: Rocky and Ty both play Cyrano for [=CeCe=] and James respectively in "Opposites Attract It Up".

* {{Expy}}: WordOfGod has it that Gunther and Tinka were inspired by [[Film/HighSchoolMusical Ryan and Sharpay Evans]]. Right down to the BrotherSisterIncest.
** An AmbiguouslyGay (aside from said sister incest) guy. However, unlike Sharpay, Tinka isn't an AlphaBitch (in fact, her status as a FunnyForeigner makes her a target for real {{Alpha Bitch}}es). That gets to Gunther... a bit.
*** Tinka comes off very strongly as a somewhat meaner version of [[Series/DrakeAndJosh Yuka]].
** Flynn is very similar to Gabe Duncan from ''Series/GoodLuckCharlie'', as are Henry and Austin. And he also resembles Matt [=McGuire=] from ''Series/LizzieMcGuire''.
** [=CeCe=] is similar to Chelsea from ''Series/ThatsSoRaven'', right down to the nearly-identical hair color. In the episode "Reunion It Up", Anneliese Van der Pol, who played Chelsea, guest-starred as [=CeCe=]'s older CaptainErsatz.
** Rocky & [=CeCe=] have also been compared to [[Series/ICarly Carly & Sam]], respectively.

It crosses into radar territory when you realize this was almost the exact plot of the ''Series/{{Seinfeld}}'' episode, "The Sponge" (which was about contraceptive devices instead of snack cakes).

* YourCheatingHeart: Georgea cheats on her fiancé Jermemy by kissing her ex-husband J.J. It doesn't end well.

* SpeakNowOrForeverHoldYourPeace: Flynn objects to his mother marrying Jeremy when he catches his parents kissing the night before the {{Wedding Day}}.
