''Shake It Up!'' is a Creator/DisneyChannel Original Series, developed by veteran TV producer [[Series/LaverneAndShirley Chris Thompson]] that premiered on November 7, 2010.

The series revolves around PlatonicLifePartners Cecilia "[=CeCe=]" Jones (Creator/BellaThorne) and Raquel "Rocky" Blue (Creator/{{Zendaya}}), two young teen best friends from inner-city UsefulNotes/{{Chicago}} who find themselves one step closer to their dream of becoming professional dancers when they're hired as backup dancers on ''Shake It Up Chicago'', an ''Series/AmericanBandstand''-style variety show.

* Flynn Jones (Creator/DavisCleveland): [=CeCe=]'s AnnoyingYoungerSibling who has an appetite for bacon.
* Ty Blue (Roshon Fegan): Rocky's older brother, who is himself a skilled dancer. He's also [[AWildRapperAppears an aspiring rapper]], and fancies himself a ladies' man.

Starting with the second season, Disney launched a related spin-off competition called ''Shake It Up: Make Your Mark''. This is a competition program where various people or groups participate in competitive dancing, with the winners becoming guest dancers on a future episode of ''Shake It Up''. The first competition accepted submissions throughout the summer of 2011 with the competition itself televised the weekend of October 18, 2011. The winners appeared at the beginning of the second season episode "Camp It Up". The second competition likewise accepted submissions over the summer of 2012, and aired on the weekend of October 19, 2012. Both shows are hosted by Creator/DebbyRyan and Roshon Fegan and also feature Bella Thorne and Zendaya; show choreographer Rosero [=McCoy=] also served as a judge for both competitions. Music/SelenaGomez was also a judge for the first show (and returned in a cameo appearance for the second with Music/BridgitMendler); Music/CherLloyd was a member of the judge's panel for the second competition. R. Brandon Johnson was also a host for the first show (basically reprising his role as Gary Wilde as if actually hosting ''Shake It Up Chicago'') but only Debby, Roshon, Bella and Zendaya returned as hosts for the second competition. The second competition also differed from the first in that instead of a winner being determined from six finalists, the field was narrowed to three finalists by the judges with viewer vote-in deciding the winner. The winners for the second competition appear in the episode "Home Alone It Up".

With the lack of new episode orders from Disney Channel, the series aired its last episode on November 10, 2013.

Possibly in the Franchise/DisneyChannelLiveActionUniverse due to [[Series/HannahMontana Teen Court]] appearing in a recent episode. Confirmed with the {{Crossover}} episode with ''Series/GoodLuckCharlie''.

* TalentContest: Averted - odd for a show that focuses so much on singing and dancing, there's yet to be an actual episode that truly follows the spirit of the trope (the closest two is in "Auction It Up", but that was almost strictly an endurance test, and the Beauty Pagent episode, though that was a straight-up [[CaptainObvious beauty pagent]]). However, the ''Make Your Mark'' SpinOff competition certainly counts as a RealLife example.

*** And again during the prison dance sequences in "Fire It Up", though it's only the instrumentals this time. More properly, it's a Shout Out to prison courtyard recreation of Music/MichaelJackson's ''{{Thriller}}'' made popular on YouTube.

* CelebrityParadox: Between the two of them Creator/BellaThorne and Creator/ZendayaColeman have four songs that have been played on the show during dance numbers, yet no one in the Shake It Up! universe wonders why [=CeCe=] and Rocky look like them. Could be explained by the fact that the singers of those songs are only heard and never seen, so there's no reason to believe anyone in-universe actually knows what they look like. Also, the song "Show Ya How" is by Adam and Kenton (Deuce and Gunther respectively) in "Protest It Up"

** Creator/BellaThorne and Creator/ZendayaColeman ''do'' sing the song "Watch Me" [[CelebrityParadox which has been played a few times]] during the [[ShowWithinAShow Shake It Up Chicago]] dance numbers. Zendaya does "Something To Dance For" in "Apply It Up," while Bella sings "TTYLXOX" in "Judge It Up".

* SpiritualSuccessor: To ''Series/HannahMontana'' and, to a degree, ''Series/SonnyWithAChance''. Creator/ZendayaColeman has even said the similarities to ''Hannah'' are intentional.

* GaveUpTooSoon: In the episode "Slumber It Up", Flynn Ty Deuce and Gunther go on a {{Treasure Hunt}} to find a lost treasure hidden in "Crusty's Pizza". They then realize the map was a fake and call off the search, but after Ty Deuce and Gunther leave Flynn ends up finding the treasure himself anyway.

* MeanCharacterNiceActor:
** In RealLife, Creator/BellaThorne is ''much'' nicer than [=CeCe=].
** Likewise Caroline Sunshine/Kenton Duty and Tinka/Gunther Hessenheffer

* IdiotBall: [[spoiler:Honestly, what made [=CeCe=] and Rocky think that they were going to sneak off to a party and not get caught by a person who catches rulebreakers for a living?]]

** Rocky is a LoonyFan of Justin Starr and throughout "Age It Up" keeps obsessing over him and trying to have him all to herself. When it is revealed in the end that [[ReallySeventeenYearaOld he is really 24 years old and married to his manager]], what is her reaction? "I knew there was something about you the moment I first saw you, which is reason why I was never that big of a fan".

* IndyEscape: PlayedForLaughs in "Match It Up". Deuce is being manipulated by a GoldDigger named Savannah who is only dating him for the money he is collecting during the Cash Tournado tournament. When he sees Savannah flirting with Ty (whom Rocky had disguised as a famous billionaire to expose Savannah's true colors), he immediately rips the tornado ball out of its place and rolls it whilst inside of it lime a hamster wheel trying to run Ty over.

* CelebrityParadox: Between the two of them Creator/BellaThorne and Creator/ZendayaColeman have four songs that have been played on the show during dance numbers, yet no one in the ShakeItUp universe wonders why [=CeCe=] and Rocky look like them. * ArtisticLicenseMilitary: In "Boot It Up". at Major Dance's Boot Camp at least a couple obvious errors. While I doubt Major Dance is a real former Major in the Army, but in what world do you call a female officer "Sir?" I understand their ''Never leave a man behind'' motto, even though they're not men, or women, but girls. But calling a woman sir, is just as bad as calling RLeeErmey ma'am, (who is the TropeCodifier [[Film/FullMetalJacket of]] DrillSergeantNasty and a one RealLife too, by the way). It just borders on dumb and discourteous to military customs. "Ma'am yes ma'am" probably [[RuleOfCool sounded too strange or lame]], while calling her sir makes her seem like a badass, to them.

* HeelFaceDoorSlam: In ''Love and War it Up'', [[spoiler:[=CeCe=] tries to be a better person for Logan, but after an accident involving [=CeCe=] during his badminton game, Logan doesn't buy her attempt at redemption. Of course, [=CeCe=] acted like a jerk towards Logan ever since he fired her for legitimate reasons, and this damaged their relationship beyond forgiveness and redemption]].

** In Future it Up the waitress Brenda looks like, and [[DeadpanSnarker snarks]] like [[TwoBrokeGirls Max]] after 22 years.

* KidsShouldntWatchHorrorMovies: Flynn watches a horror movie in "Party It Up".
